Oil Temp Gauge

Recommended Posts

Does any one know anywhere else to put a sending unit for an oil temp gauge, other than tying in with the oil press sender?  it is to tight, i cannot get  a socket all the way down over the sender, i even went out and got one of those fancy "oil pressure sender" remover sockets..

Thanks!

are we talking oil pressure gauge or oil temp. gauge? an oil pressure gauge has to be tied into the pressure galley from the oil pump, usually the easiest place is at the sender. an oil temperature gauge sender is usually installed in the oil pan, where it will be below the level of the oil in the pan.

if this is an electric type gauge the sender may be small enough to install in a fitting with the pressure sender, the mechanical type senders are usually too large. but consider this, the oil pressure sender port is not actally in the flow of oil, the oil is forced up to the sender and stays there, it doesn't flow through the engine, this may not provide a true reading, that is why the oil pan location is prefered. you might be able to rethread the drain plug in the pan to the same thread as the sender, then install the sender there and remove it to drain the oil.
