drop in filter vrs air tube conv

I got just the drop in K&N filter. It was MUCH cheaper and I still noticed a difference in power. I would say that the whole kit, with tube and cone intake filter, would be more condusive with an aftermarket exhaust and any other engine upgrades. But with a stock exhaust, the drop in is probably the way to go.

I have an AEM Brute Force intake system on my truck and when I installed it, I could tell a little "seat of the pants" increase. The issue with the tube/cone set up is that you will hear a little more engine noise in the cab than with an enclosed system.

I think I will try a drop in for the Suburban to see if there is a difference.

Remember, I don't have dyno numbers, just seat of the pants.

In case you haven't found it yet, here is the link to the site that goes through the air box mod. Has pictures and easy to follow.

I did the air box mod, air tube mod, and descreened the MAF at the same time. Added the K&N drop in too. I noticed quite a difference. More power, nothing dramatic but noticable. Throttle response really picked up. That is what I noticed the most. Much more noise comes from under the hood!

The air box mod only took me about 30 minutes, but I was watching NASCAR race while I was cutting the box. The first one I did with a hand saw. Did a friends truck the next weekend and used that as an excuse to buy an air saw! That took 10 minutes.

Well worth it IMHO

looks like the airbox mod lets in under hood air, which is hotter. I think the free mod where you cut a 4" hole in the "bottom" of the airbox instead of the side, and run a duct to the front behind a tow hook would be better?
