Truck tool box and bed rail caps

I'm purchasing a second-hand Delta Pro toolbox for my 2000 Silverado. The previous owner doesn't have the mounting hardware or mounting pads.

Instead of buying some foam tape and having it potentially ruin my paint, I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone by buying some Bushwacker bed rail caps. Does anyone have these? Pictures? Care to comment on the fit & finish?

Has anyone taken off a toolbox to find the foam mounting pads have worn through the paint? That's really what I'm trying to avoid by simply installing some bed rail caps. Just want to see if other people think that's a good idea too.

Yes! My last truck had an over the rail toolbox in it. When I went to trade it in, I took the box off thinking I would put it in the new truck as well. Well, when I took the box out I had some nice white bed rails. Problem was my truck was dark blue! I quickly put the toolbox back in and traded the truck in with the toolbox. Go with the rail covers or get an over the rail bedliner.

I bought a second set of the Bushwacker bed rail covers about six months ago and they will probably be the first purchase I make for every new truck I buy. I bought the smooth ones with the stake holes cut out so I could install pop up anchor points.

The first set of Bushwacker caps I bought back in '01 blew off the first time I took the toolbox out. These ones have a much better adhesive/mastic.

If you want a cheaper solution, Home Depot sells rubber pads made for this application, they have a diamond plate pattern on one side and I believe the other side might have adhesive. I remember they left a faint diamond pattern on my rails when I took the toolbox out.

You can get those bed caps pretty cheap on ebay, even name brands. They look great and work great on a truck that you actually use the bed on.

My 95 has the horrid diamond plate aluminum caps. I'm gonna order a set of those caps for it pretty soon.

I'd think about the GM bed caps. They are thicker than the Bushwacker and they match the tailgate cap. If i remember correctly they are about $100 from gmpartsdirect.com. I'm very happy with mine and they have held up well.

I bought the OE GM caps for my 04 before I put in my box........I liked them becuase they matched up with the tailgate protector (as mentioned above). They were worth the extra cash to me.

Also...are both prices for a pair of bed-rail caps...it doesn't say?

I would go for the molded ones myself. I didn't see they had stake holes in them, which is the ones I'd get.

Yea, i've got the ones that are $107.52, and yes it is for a pair. I think you'll be happy with them, despite the price being a little high.

mine have the stake holes (but they came with snap out covers for the holes). The part number for my '04 was 12498596.

I also have the flip up/down GM stake hole tie downs and I highly recommend them. p/n 12498616.

I'm sure you guys know they have pics of most of these parts at GM Accessories

Thanks, that is the kind I am looking for. How tough are those flip up tie downs? Are the holes big enough to easily get hooks in them?

I've been very happy with them. The heaviest things I've tied down with them are probably a 4 wheeler and a refrigerator. And yes, the hooks are plenty big for all of the different tie down straps I've used in them.
