2 wheel to 4 wheel

I am thinking about picking up a 2 wheel drive 91ish S-10. Im not really looking for a 2 wheel drive truck but its a good price. Can anyone give me any information on what I am going to need to do a 4 wheel drive conversion and if what will need to be modified if anything.

Just find a 4wd model, it wouldn't be worth the cost and effort to convert...

Getting all the parts from a junkyard is doable, but the main thing is the frames are different and unless that 2WD has a 4.3L in it you will not like it with a 4WD setup. There is alot of front suspension components that are completly different, such as going from a coil spring setup to a torsion bar setup. The transmissions are different also.

It is just going to be way to much work for a S-10

But it might be possible to raise the truck up a bit, and put bigger tires on it, and it'll look like a 4wd...

 

I did that with my '79 1/2 ton short box 2wd...my first truck!

It does have a 4.3 in it and I have a spare 350 laying around and was evan thinking about researching a sbc swap. But if the frames are different I guess it dosnt matter.

About the only way to make the 2wd to 4x4 conversion worthwhile, is if you are doing a solid axle front-end. You have to do the fab work for that even on a 4x4. Of course you have to come up with a differetn transfercase and tranny then.
