look heres what you need.

i have an 03 silverado, with an eclipse double din navy dvd player,

however, if you want that factory clean look while retaining all your original features i.e: bose, on star, steering controls, xm sat radio, rear entertainment system controls, then you need a DELHPI TNR800. there are 3 or 4 different models available depending on what type of gm you own, but silverado non lux, with touch screen, no problem.

my dad has an 05 3500duramax dually, and i just installed this unit last week into, no problem, easiest install ive ever done. almost.

the DELPHI units are OEM, meaning its pretty much what youd get straight from chevy, but available through aftermarket. now with this said, the unit is direct plug and play, no adapters blah blah blah, just unplug factory radio, plug in nav, install gps antenna and in 04 and higher trucks, the VSS (vehicle speed sense wire) is already a part of the radios wiring harness. years prior to that have to run one wire from the gauge cluster to this harness for VSS.

thats pretty much it. now if you want to play dvd movies and add a backup camera etc etc. being that its a factory unit there are no provisions to directly plug in external devices, so, you will have to buy an adapter that has to physically install into the unit to bypass the nav system, and allows a video input/and a rear view camera input, which when put in reverse automatically engages rear view camera. the additional functions require some extra switches to control the functions and a little bit more wiring. but not too big of a deal.

the TNR800 retails for about 1999.99 but you can find it as low as 1400.00 on some sites.

the video bypass feature will run you about 200-300. depending where you get it from.

oh by the way for dvd play back you will need an external dvd player to feed video signal in, unfortunately the indash dvd tray only reads dvd-rom, (nav discs)

if you have a rear seat overhead entertainment system factory installed or aftermarket, you can also feed that video signal in instead. im currently trying to figure out this myself on my dads truck, since i hear the factory installed unit does not have a video output to feed to the front monitor which i might have to create on my own.

on the aftermarket nav side, you have an 05? well you have a double din size opening, 02 and below dont, din and a half size only.

i prefer the double din when applicable , fold out monitors look ugly in my opinion.

all i mentioned before about retaiing factory features can still be accomplished with an afetrmarket, almost all!

bose, onstar, can be reatined by use of a data retention harness for most all gm vehicles, about 100 bones.

steering controls are 90% functional by use of a pac steering control adapter. the only thing you will definitely lose and this is big, is if you have the factory installed rear seat entertainment system in your truck. this allows for muting the sound from front, rear or all individually during video playback in back. its a nice and expensive factory installed feature. my dad wasnt willing to lose that, and i dont blame him either.

my truck came with a base model system, thank god. i dont care for the onstar, the bose system or anything else mentioned. i replaced every single piece of my audio added amplifiers of my own, and i love it much better this way.

well i hope this helped a bit. now go have some fun with your decisions. spend your money wisely!
