Aftermarket foglights

I bought and installed some Hella FF75 High intensity driving lights. They fit perfectly in the stock air dam slots. However, they mount with one bolt at the top of a mounting plate. When bolted into the factory plastic, they shake'n'rattle like crazy when I'm driving.

 

Anybody have any suggestions for a solid mount? Anybody done/performed this? I notice the stock fog lights attach with a "U" shaped mounting bracket, anybody know what I could use to duplicate that?

I just replaced the fog lights on my Suburban. The factory lights attach to the bracket which screws to a pair of holes in the chrome bumper, not the plastic airdam part. You can get a section of "C-channel" from a local metal supply shop. In the top leg of the "C " drill two holes to attach to the factory holes in the bumper. In the bottom leg drill the single hole for the Hella lights. You will have to figure out how wide the "c" channel should be and how long the legs should be. You can use 1/8" thick aluminum channel, it will be easier to drill and cut than steel and should be plenty strong enough. It will certainly be much more rigid than bolting it to the plastic.

What kind of lights did you put on? Did you just drill the one hole on top or did you drill two holes at the sides?

Can I purchase just the factory mounting brackets? How do they attach to the stock foglights - top/bottom or backside?

Mine are cheapies work no better or worse than factory. They mount on the side, factory mount on top. I drilled to holes on the bottom of the plastic opening and installed two of those clip bolt/nut combo deals... then bolted the bracket supplied with the lights. Total cost 14$ much better than 100$ to replace the factory ones. I can take pics if you'd like.

Sure, pics would be great. You said you don't have any problems with them bouncing around? Mine look like two flashlights on those feet vibrator/massage things - drives me nuts, let alone other drivers.
