2005 Duramax - need YF5

Hey y'all:

I purchased a 2005 2500HD Duramax 2 weeks ago in Texas. I picked up my plates today and was filing paperwork - came across the wonderful little sticker that indicated that the vehicle could not be registered in California - which is where I'm moving in 2 months. After searching the web - found out it needs YF5 - which it doesn't have, and everything says it has to be ordered with the vehicle.

What options do I have to get a retrofit for this code to be certified for YF5?

Is this even possible?

Thanks for the info in advance.

I have no clue what YF5 is, but I'll assume it's california emissions. I know of no way to retrofit to this. It's not like it's a single piece of hardware, but quite honestly, I have no clue what the differences are. Living about as far from California as one can get and still be in the U.S., this has never been a concern for us here.

I suspect that if you lived and purchased a vehicle outside of california and then move there, you don't have to convert it to their standards or get rid of it. I'm sure people move there all the time from outside the state and don't have vehicles certified with california emissions.

Check with CA before you spend a lot of time worrying about this.

Yeah, it's the RPO for the CA emissions.

And I agree, I can't be the only one that has had to deal with this.

Thanks for the reply.

I checked with CA DMV - you are correct.

As long as I was a TX resident and purchased the vehicle here, I only have to show them the registration paperwork, and the vehicle only ever has to meet Federal standards.

Time for mods =)

Glad I found this website, thanks for the courteous response.

I remember vaguely reading about a similar post about someone moving to CA with their non CA truck and it needed to have like 7500 miles on it or something like that? It kept peoeple from going to neighboring states to buy non CA vehicles. When I lived in CA, my Blazer was listed as a federal emission vehicle as well and I never had any problems with the smog test. I still had to get it done but it was never a problem.
