Tonneau Covers

What does everyone have for tonneau covers or toolboxes on their truck? Right now I have a toolbox on the back, but I'm toying with the idea of getting a tonneau cover. I see the ones in the back of Motor Trend that are a tarp and hook right up to my toolbox. Has anyone ever used these? I'm wondering if they leak at all? What are the pros and cons to this setup vs. a hard tonneau cover? I don't usually need the space in the bed, but in the winter when we go up north snowmobiling it would be nice to have the extra storage if it would stay dry. Thanks in advance for any tips/info!

I think I remember seeing a lockable tonneau cover with an intergrated tool box, but I can't remember where I saw it. I would definitely be interested in that.

Extang sells a combo toolbox/tonneau. I think it's called the toolbox tonneau.

Alright, here's a version that works if you already have a tool box. http://www.extang.com/docs/toolboxtonno.html It's not a tilting style like mine, it's a fully-clamped style.

I've seen a combo of the Full-Tilt (which I have and like) that was the integrated toolbox and tonneau. Link for the full-tilt http://www.extang.com/docs/fulltilt.html

I found installation instructions for the Full Tilt Toolbox tonneau, it actually is designed to work with your existing toolbox, not one that comes with it. Here is the model number listing for that cover with snaps http://www.extang.com/fulltilttoolboxapp.html#snaps

and without snaps (some sort of zip-lock channel attachment) http://www.extang.com/fulltilttoolboxapp.html#snapless

This is a soft cover but it's hinged and has 2 different removal options, either roll it up or pull the tarp and frame off as a unit without unsnapping the cover.

According to the FAQ's on Truxedo's web page, they will custom make a tonneau that will fit with your existing toolbox. It doesn't specify a cost, but you might want to check into it. As far as soft tonneaus go, I am really sold on the Truxedo Lo Profile. I've had it on my 04 Crew for about 3-4 months and love the thing. Best of luck with whatever you decide.

I really like mine (shown in sig). about 99.9% water tight, light and easy enough to remove if needed, tough as nails (I stand on it to wash the top of my CC) and I got a SMOKIN deal on it. Also like (and dislike) the fact that when it is locked, the tailgate is locked as well. Since this truck is used mainly as a commuter (I use my 91 for hauling the nasty stuff) I don't remove the cover much.

Thanks everyone for all the info, it definitely gets me a long ways. I already have a toolbox, so the tonneau that snaps into it looks good to me. Has anyone had any leaks with theirs? I live in Michigan and the climate is always changing. I'm wondering if I have to worry about things getting wet with the tarp tonneau covers or not?

I have no experience with the toolbox version of the tonneaus I linked. I do have the full-box version of the full-tilt. It's a nice cover with some adjustability, as well as the ability to remove the cover without unsnapping the tarp from the frame. It does seal well, I get VERY little water in the bed in the rain, if any at all, and it's mostly in the corners. In high-pressure touch-free car washes I have the same result. The toolbox version may be different.

I have the tonneau cover that folds into 3 parts and snaps down in the front for the flip of a handle removal. It is a very nice system if you take it on and off a lot like I do to load my atv in the back. Looks are very good and have only had a leak at the car wash. I've not had any experience with the tool box in the front. I have a box that fits under mine that I bolt in sometimes.
