General Stupidity?

I replaced all of the little light bulbs in my dash today. I found something interesting that I do not understand. Here goes:

 

There are 14 #74 bulbs between the A/C control and the instrument cluster, and I think 6 or 8 #194 bulbs. But there are 2 bulbs, 1 used for the DRL indicator and the other used for the seatbelt indicator. These 2 bulbs have their own bases that are the same as the 194's but they are not removable from the base, the entire unit must be replaced at a retail of about $12 a piece. If these bulbs are the same size and configuration as the 194's, why not use a replacable 194?

 

Oh yeah, and lets not forget the 2 amber bulbs that light up the A/C and the Recirc buttons, and the 1 green that lights up the headlight switch, none of which I can find (and of course, the A/C button blew after I reassembled the whole dash). So any help would be great with these.

I dunno, but all I did was desodder the 194's and sodder the new ones in place.
