Installed a lift kit & have a funny vibration

A bud and I installed a 3" lift kit on his 03 1/2t 2wd Quadrasteer. 3" lift spindles up front, tapered 2.5" blocks in back. Blocks have dowel pins to locate them in the factory position.

Now, at 10~16mph, only in first gear, he has a mild vibration.

After a little poking around, he found his carrier bearing (two piece driveshaft) has moved.

Couple questions:

- is the carrier bearing pre-loaded somehow ?? How do you know when you have it located properly ??

-when setting pinion angle, with a carrier, should you set the pinion STRAIGHT with the driveshaft, or do you have to match the degree of drop ?? Example- if the driveshaft drops 3* at the carrier, should the driveshaft have a 3* rise at the pinion ??

-if the pinion angle is off and causing the vibes, since everything is dowel'ed... how the heck to you adjust it ?!!? Shims ??

I went by the 4WD Warehouse friday after work and asked for a little guidance. Those counter guys were so clueless, it was scary :sigh:

So now, he has this mild vibe, the carrier isn't where it used to be, but we never touched it during the install....

Any help would be appreciated :seeya:

I've been wondering about this too, but I'm only going 2" in the rear of a 2WD, so maybe it doesn't matter as much for mine. I know with some lifts you're supposed to shim the center (carrier) bearing. I wonder if your friend's truck might just have a bad u-joint that can't cope with the new driveline angles from the lift.
