Question
frule
I checked the ATF on my 2002 Avalanche 5.3l, with 30K miles (4L60-E) after driving about 10 minutes on a 95 degree day.I added about 1/2 Qt.The fluid was at the bottom of the "hatch marks" on one side of the dipstick and about 1/2 way up the other side.I checked it as the manual states(hot,in park, after a 3 minute idle, after going through all the gears, and left dipstick in 3 seconds with engine running).
I checked it 24 hours later when the fluid was completely cold and engine NOT running. It was 2" higher up the dipstick(way overfilled if checked as hot).So my question is:should the fluid be lower when cold?Or should it be higher when cold?I always thought it should be lower since the "cold" mark is at the tip of the dipstick, but that's not what I saw.
Thanks for any help!
