Anyone seen the NEW TNR system on the H3

I found on the new Hummer3 they have both the DVD & CD slots, the Nav DVD would go behind the screen and the CD is on the top (the old location).

Of course it has the same design as the last new TNR (2005's)

He is a link, go to page 1-2 you can see that E- is the DVD slot (it also plays DVD movies in Park) and D- is the CD slot.

I woulder when we could get the part number for it?

That is the Denso nav unit that has been in the Caddy cars. Maybe GM will start using Denso units is the GMT900 lineup instead of the Delphi units.

If those Denzo's will fit the older GMT300s and 800s like we have, that would be great! It's a nicer unit than the Delphi. Although, that really LOOKS like a Delphi in the PDF.

The Denso's that come in the Pontiac Vibe look indentical to the Delphi 05 TNR's the only difference that I know of is that they don't use the class II databus. The operation of it is the same. The caddy Denso units are much different looking

Those will not operate properly in our GMT300 or 800's because of the databus incompatibility.

I learned the hard way

When did the Vibe switch to a Denso unit? Everything I see still shows the Delphi Nav radio in the dash.

The Denso stuff is flush mount with the faceplate to the IP and a lot of the Delphi units are still chassis mount to the IP...totally different mounting schemes.

I sure would like to know if this was compatible with a 2005 Envoy Denali. It seems it would fit. I really see no reason it wouldnt be compatible with it. Anyone got any part numbers or info?

the Vibe started out with the Denso units, they may have switched later on in the 05 models t a Delphi unit.

Nope, it's always been a Delphi unit. I worked in the Delphi NAV group and the Vibe/Matrix NAV radio has been a Delphi unit all along.

but will it work in a regular gmc?

I agree on the Vibe/Matrix radio - it was definitely a Delphi unit. I got to play around with one back in... 2002? It had a different face/bezel but the buttons were all the same as was the functionality. It would have the same 24 pin/12 pin C1 and C2 connectors on the back because the Vibe/Matrix also uses the standard Delphi head units like the Pontiac CD 6 in dash and etc. Would it work in a GMT300/800? Well it would plug in and function but the face bezel looked different enough that it might be an issue. I'm not entirely sure.

Also - Delphi.com JUST updated their website finally, so they have PDFs about the TNR and whatnot but for the longest time the only navigation hu brochure they had online showed an "exploded" picture of a Vibe/Matrix style INR.

I like my INR, and can't wait to upgrade to the TNR - but I do like the Nippondenzo units better. The Delphi units need some work.

I wouldn't mess with the Vibe radio in any truck, even if it is compatible...I'm ME design so EE/software/systems stuff is mostly foreign to me. But having said that, I don't think the Vibe radio is GMLAN because I don't remember having to use keep alive systems so it wouldn't work in a truck. Plus, I think that darn joystick knob would hit the IP trim bezel. The TNR has a newer generation NAV board plus the touchscreen can't be beat so go with that.

It seems as though Delphi engineers the radios to function in several different "environments" regardless of the model and part number.

My 03 S-10 for example... it uses Class 2 for a lot of things, radio included. Yet it's not as robust of a Class 2 network as a GMT800, like an 03 Tahoe or Suburban.

I have an INR non-Lux nav radio from an 04 Buick Rendezvous in my truck right now. Even the steering wheel controls, which go DIRECTLY to the radio, not through the BCM like the 03+ GMT800s, work just fine even though that pin on C1 shows "NOT USED".

What doesn't work?

1- The RAP (retained accessory power) doesn't work with this nav radio. I shut the key off, the radio goes off. Likewise if the truck is off and I turn the ignition key backwards... no dice.

2- The backlighting on the buttons, and the automatic screen brightness don't work properly. My backlighting for the dash is not Class 2 at all, so apparently the radio doesn't get any feedback for lighting and just goes into a "failsafe mode" - the buttons are just always backlit, day or night, as long as the Class 2 network is awake. It doesn't bother me because I can't see the backlight during the day when it doesn't matter anyways, and at night the radio is lit up just fine like the rest of the dash. I just adjust the screen brightness manually as needed.

My point? I need more information, a lot of what I know is speculation or first hand experience although limited. But it appears as though you could make any newer style radio work in any GM car with Class 2 databus with some exceptions.

I could probably take a Nippondenso nav unit from.. say.. a 03/04 Cadillac (non-CAN or GM LAN, whatever you call it) and get it to work in my truck. The problem would be modifying the dash to make it fit, what problems will I have in terms of functionality, etc.
