New project coming up

The other day I ordered the dome light that goes in the crew cabs and Tahoes to put in my truck.  Instead of being just a dome light, it has two courtesy lights for the rear passangers.  The main reason I'm doing this is so my son can turn on a light back there instead of asking me to turn on the dome light every 3 1/2 miles.  LOL.  Is that lazy or what?  Seriously, I think it is a real good mod and I got the idea from Jason Pendlum and Bob Prim.  They have lots of knowledge and info on lots of useful mods.  Some of you may know them from some of the other message boards.  Here's link to Jason's site.  He's got lots of great mods with real got instructions and details.  I like the lighted Tahoe mirror mod he did too.  http://users2.ev1.net/~jpendlum/

It should be in this week and I'm going to get in installed as soon as I can.  Probably not this weekend though.  Company coming and going "junk yarding" with a friend Saturday morning.

Here's a pic of Jason's light.

Tom,

That looks really good. Does the light point back or just down when you turn it on? What did the parts cost? I am really interested in doing this. By the way got the bars on today and am getting ready to make a post about it.

I havn't got it installed yet, so I don't know exactly how the lights with shine.  As a matter of fact, I havn't even got the part yet.  I ordered it on Friday, so it should get here sometime this week.  The part was ?.93 from my dealer.  On Jason's site, he has a link to some kind of Pioneer site where they will send you free samples of pins, connectors and such.  I've already done that, so all I'm waiting on is the light.  One thing though, you have to cut the hole in the headliner a little bigger because the new light housing is slightly bigger.

Glad you got the new bars on.

That is an excellent idea, I think I'll have to do that to my Suburban.  The wife could use a reading light up front, too.  That's the only thing she misses from my '99 GMC pickup, is the map light so she could read at night on road trips without disturbing me.  I could probably adapt something from a new truck to do that, too.

Thanks for the tip!

Well, I'd like to be able to take credit, but thank Jason and Bob Prim for all the info gathering and initial work.  I agree though, it's going to be a great addition, at least for my son.
