Seat Upgrade?

Recommended Posts

I've lived with the seats in my 99 NBS LS extended cab Z-71 for the past 5 years but now that they are getting a bit ragged I'd like to replace them with something a bit more comfy.

Anyone found a replacement seat? I'd like leather too if that is an option?

I had the seats in my Landcruiser redone and they added a bit of padding which helped on those but they were quite a bit more comfortable than the trucks before hand.

Any suggestions would be appreciated as I'm uncomfortable after about 2 hours and it does go away no matter how I tweak the knobs.

you could probably pick up some full power 10 way bucket seats off a chop shop

10 way??

Get some of the 8-way leather seats from an upper level LT, SLT or Tahoe. They are very comfortable.

Are your seats not power at all? Even the 6-way LS seats are more comfortable.

Some 99s have a little lever on the front that raises the front of the bottom cushion up. Not many people know it is there. Front of seat underneath near right side mount.

Yep, power. I've never seen the lever and I've had the seats out. Three motors. Front/back, front up/down and back up/down. I think the seats were made for large people. 5'8" 175 Ibs and I have a lot of play.

The LT seats appear to be the same basic seat to me. I wanted leather but needed the 40/20/40 and no one seem to have one at the time I bought the truck.

If memory serves me right from when I was shopping for my 99, that lever is on the bench seats. I'm guessing from your reply that you have buckets, and thus wouldn't have the bar under the front. I have no bar on my 99 with powered buckets.

hmm, correct me if I'm wrong folks, but wouldn't a 40/20/40 be considered a split bench vs. a bucket seat? I know mine are listed on my window sticker as buckets, and I have no center seat up front- just the console between them that runs all the way to the dash. And the seats I have are both powered and Do Not have the bar under the front which pitches the front of the seat back.

but the 40/20/40 bench w/ the flip down console doesn't have armrests that flip down from the seats, that's the difference.... otherwise yes, exactly the same.

What I woul suggest doing is getting new seat covers, good quality leather ones where you actually remove your old ones, and then when you take off your current covers you can remove the padding and put in some good padding, like memory foam or something like that... get it just the way you like it, even leave your wallet side a lil' cushier so you don't get as much pain from sititng on your wallet.

That sounds like the ticket, a set of Katskin's, some memory foam and maybe some seat heaters....hmmmm.....

Any suggestions on where I would pick this kind of stuff up. As I recall, Katzkin's were around $1000.
