Problem...NEED HELP!!

My wife got home today, turned off our 2001 Chevy Tahoe 2wd 5.3l and something was running even though the Tahoe was not on. Turns out after I got under the Tahoe, the noise is/was coming from the unit right above/behind/next to the fuel filter. I think it has something to do with the brake system but I am not sure. It appears break lines go to it. For some reason it is/was just running and was quite warm. I unplugged it and the noise stopped and it turned off. When I plug it back in the unit runs without the Tahoe being on.

Any idea what this part/unit is? Any idea on how hard to replace? Part numbers?Any help would be great.

Thanks and this site is the best.

You need to remove your ABS fuse, The Abs module has a shorted chip in it

that causes the ABS motor to run all the time.

You can still use the Tahoe but you will have no ABS until you take the module off

and have it repaired ($150 I believe)

Its called the EBCM....Electronic brake control module. It has shorted out, and will only run your battery down, and possibly mess up the brake control valve if you leave it plugged in. First, unplug it as you did, and take it to the dealer (or your mechanic) and have them test it. More than likely you will have to have the EBCM replaced. This was a common problem, especially in 99 trucks. The ebcm is around 400 to 800 bucks....that is the bad news...It shouldnt hurt anything to drive it while it is unplugged, you will just have a ABS light and BRAKE light on in your intrument panel cluster.

If the search funtion is working here, you may wish to do one for "abs module" or something similar. This is a known failure. One company that repairs the modules that I've seen mentioned before is Circuit Soluctions. I think they've got a site that is their name with .com on the end. They'll fix the module for a much better price than the dealer. Just another option for you.
