about 2 weeks ago i posted an abs question, but forum member (asilverblazer)

hijacked my post, and turned it into a joke. so ,i thought i would ask it again.

i have had many incedents of my abs going off, and almost rearending

the car in front of me. i would like to know, what effect there will be on

my truck if i pull the abs fuse, and WHERE is the fuse. in the box under the

hood, or next to the drivers door??? my abs has never come on in an

appropriate situation, only when i hit a little bump, and then i can't

stop the truck. i would really like a little help, THANKS. :shakehead::wtf:

and yes, iknow about the recall

Here's the post with the unappreciated sarcasm:

The Hijacked Thread

I have wondered at times if it would be possible to put a switch on the thing.

People are so quick to assume that they can stop faster with anti-lock brakes. The tests that I've seen suggest that an expert driver can stop faster without abs compared to the average driver using the cheezy abs units in mass production vehicles.

And then there's the more dangerous driving (taligating) that results from the incorrect assumption that abs will save you.

I think abs is just a gimmick to sell cars.

I'd rather not have it either.

Apparently pulling the fuse, wherever it is, will result in a light being lit on the dash warning of ABS system failure. Ok, remove the light. Problem solved.

The rest of the braking system has its own warning light. Leave that one operational.

Is there something wrong with the system that may be an easy fix like a faulty wheel sensor or something? The reason I ask is that if you disable the abs and you get in an accident (I know the faulty abs has almost caused accidents) you could be held seriously liable for a lot of damage. Your insurance could even back out on you if that is discovered. Something to think about.

Didn't GM just recently announce a recall for 800K vehicles due to overly sensative abs?

Almost got me a few times rolling through an intersection because the truck thought that small bump in the road necessitated full abs mode :shakehead:

I know the wheel speed sensors get dirty and corroded and it helps tokeep them clean. Problem is they are integrated into the hubs and thus are a PITA to get to.

I also know that when I upgraded the tires and brakes, the false abs activation problem almost went away! I don't know why but it is WAAAY better now.

Regarding pulling the fuse.....other than setting a code and lighting a light, there is no effect other than loosing the abs function which is not all a bad thing.

Agree on the liability issue. I'd say not likely but if some lowlife attorney figures it out, I'm sure he would try to use it to his advantage.

Lastly, I TOTALLY agree on the expert driver being able to have better stopping without abs versus an avergage driver with abs. I would guess the majority of drivers panic and hammer and hold the brakes as they are sliding into whatever they were trying to aviod. In this situation, abs can and does save lives as that same person can now steer as he is trying to panic stop. Not that this changes the outcome :wtf: A great driver can modulate the brakes and actually have better control of the vehicle. Believe it or not, sometimes locking up the wheels to initiate a turn in a controlled way is much more effective at getting out of a situation. Notice they don't use abs on race cars or motorcycles? They use the brakes to manuever their vehicle as well as slow/stop it. Giving abs to those is actually a handicap. I can speak from a little experience as I have attended a few car and motorcycle racing schools. I would highly recommend them to anybody looking to hone their driving/riding skills. They are a real eye opener as you will learn how little you really knew about how to drive! I can think of at least 5 examples in the last 10 years that I would have been in a serious accident (not caused by me) had I not learned the ability to make my vehicle do things I didn't think it could do to get out of an ugly situation.
