LEAK

Hey guys I was hoping you could help me out. I have a leak in a wierd place. It is coming from between the cab and bed area on the drivers side of the truck. If you look straight up it is dripping from a U piece under the weep holes from the bed (nothing is in the bed). It is also running down the side of the gas tank (fluid is not gas). Its an oranish/red fluid. Cant figure how it would be coming from where it is.

Here is a picture. It is up by the gas fill tube you can see the little bubble of fluid (orangish red)

 

You can see the drip. There is a puddle inside the U channel.

Can't imagine what it might be, but it sure does look an awful lot like transmission fluid.

 

Smell like transmission fluid?

Only fluid i can think it could be is trans fluid. Trans fluid is a little more red (brand new and clean). Smells kinda like trans fluid but also has a sweet smell.

 

I drove to lowes came home and parked a different way (truck facing up my driveway, it has a slight slope down so from front of the truck to the back is going down now) and there is no leak. When it was leaking I was backed in with the front of the truck facing down the hill. Is there a trans fluid vent in that general area???

 

It has a hydraulic fluid consistancy

its still slightly leaking. Looks like it is coming from above somewhere around the area where the gas tank is mounted. Any hose or anything run there? Seems odd

I found the mystery fluid. Talking to my dad looking outside at my truck it HIT ME!

 

Labor day weekend I threw a gallon of coolant into my toolbox in the back of my truck along with my jack, tow rope, etc i normally carry around. I went out and check ed and there was a small hole in the bottle and it leaked all into the toolbox. This caused it to go into the bed weephole which was covered by the toolbox. No actual mechanical leak WHEW!
