99 Silverado Door Locks

A friend of mine wants his truck to unlock the doors when he stops. He says he has to hit the unlock button to get the doors to open when he shuts the truck down. My 2000 Silverado unlocked when I pulled the key from the ignition. Shouldn`t the 99 do the same? Is there something he can do to fix this?

I am posting this because if it is a warranty thing he said it about to run out on him. If Chevy will correct it we think they should.

I would think the doors should unlock when the key is pulled from the ignition, but someone like mountanieerTom would know better. His truck is a '99.

You have to get a controller to do that for the 99's and early 00's. go to this site. they also have a few other accessories you can do.

I would think that would be something they could just re-program. I've also notice the difference between my 99 and my fater-in-law's 2000.

Nope on 99's you got to push the unlock button to get them to unlock. (IT SUCKS) I think the only way to do what you want is with one of the kits mentioned before.

Yes, '99's and the early '00's don't unlock when you put it in park or take the key out. I have the R&D Auto Door Unlock kit and it works great. Here's some pics and info on the install. http://tommy3z71.homestead.com/auto_unlock.html

Also, according to my '99 owners manual, you can take it to te dealer and they can program it so the auto door lck function is disabled if you would happen to want to go that route.

This is correct. I had this done on my 99 Serria. The dealer did not charge me anything to do it.

i too agree it is a pain to have to unlock the doors whenever you need to get out. im going to contact my service center and see it they will install this for free. beats having to pay $30.00!
