VortecMax?

Recommended Posts

I can't answer why you can't get it to come up on GMC's website,But I can tell you that they are out,We've gotten a couple of the "VortecMax" trucks in here.

It is available on the Standard-Bed Ext.Cab 1500 and the Short-Bed Crew-Cab 1500.

I picked mine up sat and man what a truck!

I've been driving it non stop to get the first 500 miles on it.So at 499 miles I changed the oil to mobil 1 and she's ready to rock.I know this will be hard to believe but she got 19.8 mpg on the first tank(was only going 53-55 mph) and thats checking at the pump and is showing 19.0 on the computor(driving normal/mainly hwy).I found this computer to be dead nuts on compared to my 03 and 04 trucks. But they also took a bunch of features away.

The 6.0 is way bad with the 4.10 gears.

Have you driven one?  What gears and tranmissions is it available with?

Does it compare with the Titan and Hemi?

Question 1-No,I haven't had the chance to drive one yet (I can't wait though :chill: )

Question 2-4.10's on 4x4's & 3.73's on 2WD's both come with with the G80 locker and a 4L70E "Super-Duty" Trasnsmission.

Question 3-Don't know,I've never driven a Titan or a Hemi (And I don't really want too either to be honest with you :nopity: )

Man, the VortecMax should be fabulous. High Output 6.0 liter, beefed-up tranny & running gear, and 4.10s. Whoa!!!!

My service rep at our local Chevy agency is an old dude (on oxygen) who is honest to a fault and who has pretty much seen it all. It it isn't worth squat, he doesn't hold his tongue.

Anyway, I asked Warren what he thought about the VortecMax. His response was, "Holy Crap, this is the perfect rig." He loves the engine, loves the tranny, loves the running gear and loves the suspension. It also raises the towing capacity of the crew cab short box from 7,700 pounds to a cool 9,900 pounds.

Good chance it will be available in a Suburban soon, too. Please, please, please.

Personally, I'm not hurting now, with my 2003.

The 2006 Silverado will be a short model year. I'm planning on buying a new 2007 model-year Silverado or Suburban and I have absolutely, positively no doubt that it will be a VortecMax. Perfect clone between the 1500 and the 2500.

I'm excited.

Steve

Please give more mileage and power updates if you can. Is the ride any different from normal 1/2 ton? Shift firmness?

Well I an comming from an HD2500 8.1 alison and I just towed my 6,000 lb trailer down to Rocky point and I feel this thing pulls close or maybe harder. Now I have yet to go to the mountains but this thing pulls real nice. The truck its self is of course not near as stable as a bigger truck but with the Reese Dual cam set up it is dialed.

Ok this is the low down and in the last 4 years I have had an 02 Avalanche,03 HD1500 and the 04 HD2500.This is way faster than all of them.It pulls the trailer great.Got 9.3 mpg.Thats Almost 2 mph better than the 8.1.

This Vortec Max is getting better that 19 mpg on the freeway and around 17+ combined. This is no b.s.

The trans feels really nice and there is a suspension switch that turns things from pretty mushy to nice and firm.I took her to competition hill at rockpoint and with out letting any air out of the tires I could go most any where.

I really love this truck but I do think the brakes suck.I almost felt like they pulsated from new.But with the trailer on it was not that bad.I think they dial alot of rear brakes when the back drops.

I am waiting to get side by side with the Nissan or dodge but I feel it will smoke either.

I love it and have yet to see another.

sorry for the long reply but this thing is worth talking about.

Phil
