TahoeMan Posted February 15, 2002 Posted February 15, 2002 Just had my Tahoe DDD's fixed by a paintless dent repair guy... $120 for about 5 or 6 dings. Now, I find another one that must have just happened in the last day or two...really shows up on the black. I need advice, I want to keep the truck straight, can't afford to run back the the dent guy all the time, and can't realistically park away from everyone all the time...so the fact of the matter is DDD is going to occur. What do ya'll do about it...are there alternatives my thick head hasn't thought of??? (likely) Appreciate comments.

I saw a thread on FSC about magnetic plastic protection you can put on when you park close to someone.. Like in a parking garage. I think it was from StylinConcepts or PerformanceProducts.com
TahoeMan Posted February 15, 2002 Author Posted February 15, 2002 chane, thanks...recall the thread source?
chane Posted February 15, 2002 Posted February 15, 2002 chane, thanks...recall the thread source? I found the links.. http://www.no-ding.com/retailinfo.html http://www.caraccessories.com/doorguards_original.asp by Y2KZ71 @ FSC
TahoeMan Posted February 15, 2002 Author Posted February 15, 2002 Thanks chane, since we don't drive A**tecs or Saturns (plastic cars) I guess we have to do undesirable things to protect our metal. God, I don't want to do this...but what alternative do I have...since I don't see very many of those protectors hanging off trucks...does everyone just live with the dings?
firecadet613 Posted February 15, 2002 Posted February 15, 2002 TahoeMan what place did you use? Where they all on the same panel? I've got 2 on my passenger side front door and one on my rear tailgate which I ought to get removed soon, I can't stand looking at them!! Thankfully I barely ever see the right side of my truck Joe
TahoeMan Posted February 15, 2002 Author Posted February 15, 2002 Firecadet613, Used a local guy here in Michigan...dings were on all 4 doors...he charged $75 for the first one plus $10 for each one thereafter...would have added up to more...but we struck up a conversation...had a beer...he charged me a little less. Found out from him that this is really becoming a booming business...in my neck of the woods there are only two listed in my little phone book (the first one I called didnt' return my call). More in Detroit and larger surrounding "hamlets" like the Dent Dr and a couple others but this guy was real close on the way home from work. He said he gets most of his work from dealers and is trying to hire some more help. Anyway, email me if your close to the Troy, MI area and want the number.
THE BIGPUNN Posted February 15, 2002 Posted February 15, 2002 does he do scratches too? i think a good buffing will fix it. whats his number im from the froot loop capital (Battle Creek,MI)!
TahoeMan Posted February 15, 2002 Author Posted February 15, 2002 THE BIGPUNN, company name is Dent Patrol, owner Randy...(248) 693-1070...he's got whats listed on his card as voice mail pager (313) 249-1773, Lake Orion, MI. Not sure about scratches...I was planning on having my 'Hoe professionally buffed etc which is why I wanted the dings out to begin with.

Usually when I park away from the general population, some dip.... always ends up parking next to me. I just picked up my first door ding last week. Lucky I was able to straighten the sheet metal out. Left a small scratch to the metal though. Since it also happened at work, it really pissed me off.
WS6Y2K Posted February 18, 2002 Posted February 18, 2002 Here's a suggestion. Trade in your Tahoe and get a Avalanche. The plastic cladding saves a whole bunch of door dings. I can now park where ever I want and not worry about door dings. I still have the same problem with my Trans Am. The only solutions is to park really far. Even that still does not work. I have 2 door dings on my TA.
TheScaryGuy Posted February 18, 2002 Posted February 18, 2002 and can't realistically park away from everyone all the time... I tend to always manage to park no where near anyone else. People who ride with me bitch about the walk, I say the excersise is good fer'm!
chane Posted February 18, 2002 Posted February 18, 2002 I tend to always manage to park no where near anyone else. People who ride with me bitch about the walk, I say the excersise is good fer'm! Same here! I park the last parking spot out most everywhere. Everyone who rides w/me knows they'll be walking a mile. I usually find a couple of other nice looking GM trucks to park next to out that far. Yesterday I had parked a ways out and came out to find a nice Z71 and a new Avalanche parked next to me. Very common here.. Last week, I had a guy waiting by my truck to ask about my Escalade handles! Some @ the front have yellow lines you can park most of one side on. I am worried that one of these days someone will actually need the handicap spots I park a little too close to at restaurants. Never see anyone parked in them at restaurants here. No DDD's yet! Never had any on my 2000 either.. The couple of extra minutes walking is worth it!
biznotch Posted June 21, 2004 Posted June 21, 2004 I need to bring this thread back. I am moving into a new apartment complex that seems to have a shortage of parking. So I will need some sort of ding protection. Any ideas?
tryn2lrn Posted June 21, 2004 Posted June 21, 2004 TahoeMan, can you get a set of frame mount step bars that stick out pretty far. Your Tahoe sits high enough that car doors will probably hit them before your paint. If you get dings from other 4 wheelers....well that's justt rude!!!
