I flipped past the Game Show Channel tonight and there was a show from the 1970s with a couple going wild because they won a new Chevy Vega wagon!

The Vegas were made about 35 miles from my house...  now they make Cavaliers and Sunfires.

I wouldn't mind having an old "Cosworth Vega"!!!

I also knew of a guy who shoehorned a 427 into one...  Holy Crap!!!

We put a 427 with a powerglide mated to a Mopar 8 3/4" rear end that was narrowed to fit a set of about N60-15's inside the fenderwells, I think that the axels were only about 13 or 14 inches long on either side, the tires were some Indy car rain tires so they had a tread patteren on them.  That car was a ton of fun to drive, it didn't take much go pedal to get it to turn sideways.  Oh those were the days.

I'm assuming you put that in the Vega...

The last time I saw the one I mentioned (about 10 years ago) it was bent in half at the floor boards.  The only 2 guesses I have is the drive shaft broke or he somehow put it on it's side and hit a pole or tree.  I think the first guess is right because the body still looked good!!!

Lets face it...any new car that is FREE is impossible to beat...I woulda been excited too!  Least you could do is sell it and buy something else

A kid I go to school with has an old Vega Wagon.  And for some reason he actually has been working on it to try and get it running.  Don't know exactly why he wants it running, guess he just likes to wrench on stuff.   ???   He wants to go visit the pasture where my old man dumped his Vega about 15 years ago just to take some parts off of it.  lol

I think there is some joy in bringing back ANY old vehicle....even a Vega.  After a certain number of years they all look cool because they are so old and there arent any around.

OK Shaners, hypothetical question.  Would you rather drive to work by yourself in a Liberty or carpool in a Vega with Paco??   :0  :0  :0

IF I had to I could walk to work in 20 minutes or less...

I'd carpool with PACO as long as he wasn't driving...  ;)

Sorry Shaners, but yes we did shoehorn the big motor into a VEGA.  The only bad thing about it was at the time the guy that owned the car also bought a Cogsworth Vega for as best I remember $2500.00  he was one who could fall into cow poop and come out like a rose.  He kept both cars for about 3 years and sold the 427 car for over $10,000 and he got $5500 for the other car and he never touched it.  He put a few miles on each of them, he just was a poor little rich kid that had lots of luck in finding things, the 427 had aluimunm heads on it that he bought for $300 for the set.  That is just an example of how he could get some good stuff and yes this was a few years ago in 1980 or 81.
