Looking for the best setup that's got the best sound and performance gain without too much cab noise. Duals are out of the question since i tow an enclosed trailer.

If the Jardine setup is anything like their setups for diesel pickups, it will be very high quality.  I've never heard one of their systems on a gas motor, but I'd expect it to have good tone.  I'm sure Banks makes nice stuff, but you have to be careful with them as their customer service is awful.

Why does a trailer make dual out of the question. I plan on haulling a camp trailer and I want to put dual on my 6.0L

:) Just make sure they come out behind the rear wheels and not straight out the back. I think that's what the other poster was thinking.

Dual exhaust out the rear of the truck is fine when towing. They tell it isn't because soot from the exhaust can get on the trailer (like ANY road debris?)

The other issue is exhaust fumes coming back into the vehicle. This may be true for a SUV with open back windows. The fumes will not reach the back of a cab's sliding glass window.

 

That's my story  ;)

Does anyone know of a true duel kit for a 6.0L ec lb truck 2001 sierra4x4 ? I hate to  leave my truck at a muffler shop  :plainsmile:

Jeez GM spends millions on engineering an exhaust system

for your truck to enhance performance, fuel economy, and

limit noise made of of T-304 Stainless steel to inhibit corrosion

...why would you want to alter that?

Well Its like this. I may not be a rocket scientist, but I do know air flow. The 20 or so years I spent in the HVAC trade tells me so. The thing that bothers me about my exhaust system is that gm took the time to run nice big 3" duel pipes all the way to One big a** muffler . Then come out the other side of that muffler with a single 2.75" pipe. There is not one person on this planet that can't tell me that I have a big flow issue there. I know that I need back pressure for the motor but do I need so much.   Sorry for being so long winded :lookaround:

Some back pressure for the gasoline engine for sure,

but it's all about flow, right? However it is also necessary for these gases to be quickly evacuated from the exhaust system.

 

When you configure a hot air (or HVAC) system you begin

with a large plenum near the furnace, which slowly gets reduced to perhaps a six inch insulated hose as it connects

to the duct in order to keeps the air flow (CFM) correct.

 

The same theory is incorporated into your exhaust system.

Go to a 3" dual exhaust from the manifolds with a stock engine and you will cry over lost torque. Torque, not horsepower moves heavy objects. Just read some of the posts on Usenet.

I am fully aware that torque move a truck, I guess the pioint I was trying to make is it would have been nice if GM would have at least ran a 3" id pipe to the rear. I will probably invest in a duel  in and duel outlet system like the on Gibson sells. Just so you know in HVAC you many type of air not just heating houses. I dont do that kind of hvac :)

ps. im not complely sure but when I look under my 6.0L 2500

gm put 3" od pipe from each header to the dual inlet muffler

Auto manufacturers put far more emphasis on noise reduction concerning intakes and exhaust than they do airflow.

Why else are we still stuck with cast iron intakes and exhaust? How about the air baffle box on the intakes of the '95 and earlier GM trucks?

A free flowing aluminum intake is lighter and cheaper to produce than the old style cast iron stock equipment.

Stainless steel headers would have a negligible cost increase and would definitely increase useable power in the exhaust system.

Not many people realize that the intake on an engine makes nearly as much noise as the exhaust.

GM and the other manufacturers know that the average Mom and Pop looking for a vehicle don't want it loud.
