5.3 plug suggestions needed

I own a 02 Silverado with a 5.3 an amm getting ready to do the plugs for the first time (42,000 miles). I have read alot about NGK TR55's that some people are using. Any other brands anyone can suggest? Also, if I go with NGK's, what should the gap be set at? Thanks for any advice.

I've been running NGK TR55 plugs gapped at .055 for quite a while on my 2000 5.3l GMC

OK..Thanks for the info.....On another note : NGK says to gap the plugs at .060 for my engine....Why did you gap yours at .055? Any advantage to this?

I spoke with many guys online who ran them on 5.3l vortec trucks. That was what the majority ran with

I've never seen an actual recommendation in a 5.3l Vortec truck motor.

My TR55's are at .055. Pinged its ass off at .060.

Does anyone know if the TR55's will fit in the '07 1500 Classic with the FFV 5.3L? I ran these in my '04 GTO with great results. The only reason I ask is because I know the oil filter on the '07 Classic is different than the '06s. Thanks for any help.

MY RECOMMENDATION FOR YOU IS TO STICK WITH THE STOCK PLUG AND DON'T CHANGE IT FOR 100,000 MILES. SINCE THAT IS THE SUGGESTED MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE FOR MY PLUGS ON AN 02 GMC WITH A 5.3L

That's an old wives' tale that you HAVE to run AC Delco plugs in a GM truck. While I personally like and have never had issues with AC plugs, if I found some that ran better I'd install those. For example, my Grand Prix came originally with NGK plugs. I'm currently running Autolites, but they've not been good to me and are only in there because they were free. I have a set of AC's waiting to go in, but if NGK plugs weren't MORE than the AC's I'd probably run those.

The plugs and wires might last 100.000 but at what performance? I have changed mine about after 5 years around 60.000. I bought everything OEM on e-bay. So it ended up not costing an arm and a leg.

I think even if you decide not to change the plugs before 100.000 miles it is good practice to take them out and put them back in every once in a while just to make sure they don't freeze in.

NGK TR55!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So what if GM puts a super duper 12 dollar platinum plug in there. That doesnt make it the best or last for 10 years. Ill put NGK in anything I own.

Had some bosch plats but started getting a misfire, put some new AC Delco iridiums and new Deco wires and purrs like a kitten.

I hate to disagree with you on the AC Delco plug statement but if you were talking about the 2002 model, it came from the factory with NGK plugs in it. GM did this for a couple of years. The plugs actually had the long Delco # on one side and the other side said NGK and had that part #.

Also, GM once owned AC Delco and this is where the AC Delco and GM relationship began. It is my understanding that GM no longer owns any interest in AC Delco but still does use many AC Delco parts on their vehicles.
