some steering problems

okay i have a 1996 chevy tahoe 2 door. My steering is a bit loose recently i have replaced most steering components. Under the hood if i grab onto the steering shaft ( the one from my steering wheel to my steering box?) i can shake it back and forth maybe 1/2 an inch. i think this cant be good. what if anything needs to be replaced. thanks for the help in advance.

Can't tell you exactly what needs replacing. Where is the movement... besides the shaft itself. It would be at either end where it couples to the column or the gear box. 1/2" sounds like a lot and it should be easy to see where the movement originates.

well i checked it out and it seems to be towards the steering wheel side. cant exactly pinpoint it.

There's a lower bearing in the column. That's about the only thing I can think of, but I've NEVER seen one go bad. Still, anything is possible.
