Body Control Module, 99 Silverado

I have read several posts about a Headlight override for 99 Silverados and found a Body Cotrol Module (BCM) for $20 buck the othre day. Its from a 2002 Silverado. I put in in the truck today and the truck wouldn't start with the newer BCM in it. Any clue as to why? I read a post fro MountaineerTom that said [/b]"For those with '99 and early model '00's, you can replace the Body Control Module (BCM) with one from a newer model (2001 and up, to be safe) truck or new body style SUV, and then you will have the ability to press the dome override button a series of times to disable the auto headlights. It's not permanent, you'll have to do it everytime you re-start you truck. I've seen them go on e-bay for around $20.

Plus, you'll gain the ability to program your door locks to operate in a few different ways.

I have several of the R&D items, and have not had any problems with them. Too bad they don't seem to respond to people any more.

Good luck. "

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks :chevy:

I'm guessing you can't just plug in a 2002 BCM in a '99 vehicle and expect anything to work, but if it will work, at bare minimum you need to do a theft relearn so the truck will start.

Here's the procedure you need to do. Follow these steps EXACTLY.

30 Minute Learn Procedure

1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON; the vehicle will not start.

3. Observe the SECURITY telltale; after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF.

4. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.

Repeat steps 1 through 4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes; the vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK.

Important

The vehicle learns the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.

Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password.

With a scan tool, clear any DTCs, if needed. History DTCs will self clear after 100 ignition cycles.
