Question about air temperature

I know that colder air has more oxygene in it. Density stuff, etc.

 

But i've been told that air that is too cold is bad... why? and at what temperature?

The colder the better!!! So long as the intake air has a low moisture content colder is better. Moisture will cause iceing near and below freezing.

 

Of course the engine should be at at least 170 degrees. Below that...1)

water from condensation will stay in the oil and not burn off 2) the engine will run rich 3) the multi weight oil may not have the heat it needs to change to the heavier weight 4) engine parts wear much more quickly below 170 degrees!

So I guess our -40's here are a good thing, in that point of view?

 

Is it because snow could reach the air filter that I've been told not to flip the lid upside down during winter? I mean... Even water during summer could?
