8.1 oil use

I have a 2001 Sierra 2500HD 8.1/Allison. I think my truck

uses a little too much oil, not awful just too much. The

dealer will not change the intake bolts without doing a test

that will take forever to do. My question is, should I pay

to have this done? Does it help? About how much would it cost? My truck has only 13,000 miles on it.

Can't answer your questions. 8.1's are rare around here and never had one with an oil consumption complaint.

What do you consider too much oil usage?

GM spec on normal oil consumption is 1 qt per 100 gallons of fuel used. If you are lucky enough to squeeze 10 miles a gallon out of an 8.1L….1 qt per 1000 miles would be considered normal. Every since my HD was brand new it drinks about a 1qt every 1100 to 1200. It has the new intake bolts and PVC valve.

Big blocks drink oil and that is just the way it is. My 2000 GEN VI 454 crate engine in my 1978 K10 drinks even more. The bored and whored 396 in my 1968 GMC is even worse.
