Engine squealing

I have an 05 Silverado ECSB with 5.3 aluminum block. Whenever I go up any hills at moderate acceleration I hear this squealing noise under the hood. It almost sounds like theres a cricket in there. If I hit the gas harder and it downshifts it quits squealing. What is it, is this normal?

See if it "squeals" with the gear selector in 3rd gear, instead of OD. Try to figure out if the engine position is the deciding factor.

I say this because some hose or wire might have a wire tie on it that is tickling the firewall (can sound like chalk on a chalkboard), only when the engine is torqued to an exactly right position (as would happen while climbing a hill holding a steady speed).

Whether in 3rd or OD, the motor mounts flex in response to the amount of torque being delivered to the rear wheels. The motor will twist slightly, by the same amount in both cases, as you torque-up slightly to climb the hill.

This will establish hopefully that the problem is road-torque related, and not engine RPM related.
