LS1 and LS2 question

Could someone tell me the difference between the LS1 and the LS2.

I'm thinking my 04 Silverado is an LS1...........might be wrong

The LS2 is more of a racing type so speak..............might be wrong here too

Time out, as I'm posting here I'm also google searching and find out that there is an LS6 and LS7 and Gen IV. :seeya:

But I did find that a WS7 is a modded ram air hood scoop kinda thing. WS7

OK lets take a stab at this:

I have an 04 6.0 LS1 Gen IV motor with 4.10 gears.......this can't be right

Anyway thanks in advance

Yup, your right John!

The LS2's aren't available yet in the full size trucks. The 05/06 SSR and the SS Trailblazer are the only two I can think of.

No mistaking the LS2 either. Much different intake manifold with a big 90mm throttle body. The computer system is completly different and uses the new canbuss with the smaller fully sealed PCM.

Thanks Butch 02 Denali

So would I be correct in saying that LS2 is basically minor tweaks and modifcations from the LS1, where as the Vortec (when that came out for trucks 96/97??) might be considered a major revamp.

One more thing, would this LS2 be in the 07's, trucks that is.

:D

PS-there no real purpose for this post, merely just trying to stop the brain cells from free loading :seeya:

....a fully sealed PCM?  Is that bad, does that mean no computer tunes or upgrades? :seeya:

Oh nothing like that, we are already tuning the 4.2 L Trailblazers, the SSR's and the GTO's and they all have the new Canbuss with the new PCM's. They are about 5" square and about 2" thick. Heavy finned aluminum on the top and black on the bottom. They look nothing like the PCM's we are used to looking at!

The new model SUV's and the new model pickups that are comming out next year will ALL have the new computers and bus.

BTW, any programmers, readers or code scanners that you have for the current ASDL connector will not work on the new Canbuss!!!! I already tried both my auto Enginuity and my Aeroforce gauge, neither worked! Aeroforce is getting a new gauge ready that will read it!

Yes, the LS2 is basiclly a tweaked LS1. Same basic engine.

Not quite sure what they're going to put the LS2 in next. There are some new engines coming in the new platform, one a 6.2L to replace the 6.0 in the trucks.

I want an LS7 in my next truck!!!!! :seeya:

LS2 block is quite a bit different than the LS1. Knock sensors were moved down to the sides of the block on the LS2. Crank position sensor was moved, cam sensor was moved too. Timing chain area was tapped to run a chain tensioner.

Thanks Jared, I knew it was some sensors they moved around, couldn't remember which ones!

Of course the major difference between the 6.0 LS1 and the 6.0 LS2 is the change to the aluminum block like the LS6.

I'm glad they finally moved the knock sensors to where they can be gotten to without removing the intake manifold!!

Im gald they moved the K sensors too. Now also, water cant collect in those holes on the valley. The LS2 also has them funkly holes in the valley for displacment on demand.
