Knock/Ping Still an Issue?

Forgive me in advance for asking such a covered topic. I had an 02 with the knock/ping issue and it drove me nuts. I have sold it and moved onto a Jeep, but miss my truck so much I am looking to come back to another ECSB.

 

I have a buddy that works for a GMC/Pontiac dealer and he said something was done with the lifters but he didn't have the specifics. He made it sound like it would temporarily prevent the noise, but it will eventually come back.

 

I'm just looking for the latest scoop on this issue...or if it's still an issue. I'd like to get an SS with the 6.0 but I don't think that is going to be affordable. Your help is greatly appreciated.

I had the lifter "tick" on my '98 Silverado with the 5.7

And now my '04 Sierra w/5.3L has started making the same noise.

I would be worried, but I had 180,000 miles on the '98 before selling it and never had a problem with it that was related to the noise.

 

2 Friends of mine have 1500HD's one '03 and one '05 and I have not noticed the "tick" from either of those vehicles.
