If You Worked At GM Designing Trucks........

Well, here is what I would include with a factory off-road package.

Upgrade to 9.5" 14 bolt rear end

Make G80 option standard

4.10 gears standard or 4.56 gears optional

Rancho RS9000 shocks

LT 255/85R16 mud-terrain tires, no BFG's

lever shift t-case only  (an off-road package should be reliable, which autocrap and push-button t-cases are far from being that)

Slightly beefier IFS components to handle the larger tires  (not really much need of a Dana 44 on a half ton)

Probably would add some other stuff, but this is all I can think of right now.

I agree with what most of you said. I would have a soild axle choice or ifs. better ground clerance heaver skid plates 4 inch lift 33 tires warn winch run flat tires with central compresser smaller verision of the duramax diesel cast iron t- case the list goes on and on

I'd get rid of all of that computer crap.  It would be all mechanical, have a gear driven tcase and oversized fenders to fit 35" tires w/o a ton of lift.  It would only be available on a shortbed reg. cab and the package would include a can-back.

And it would be affordable.  Guess I'm just dreaming though.

In my opinion, I'd offer at least one option on the truck line of a straight axle... but, like that'd ever happen.  They could make me happy with at least a locking hub option, that'd be great!

I'd say make it like the FOX Silverado Concept, minus a few unnecessary things that are just for dirtbikes (perhaps, make them options) such as the tailgate w/ cutouts, door in the bed, etc.

Heck, even to cut costs, make it similar to the H2 which is based of the Sub and the Silverado is similar.  I wouldn't mind getting a truck w/ 35's from the factory.

Hmmm, if I were designing it:

Spray-on-bed liner from the factory option

beefed up drivetrain from front to back option

Factory lift option

upgrade brakes - and no anti-lock!!!

every available engine configuration 4.8 and up

adjustable shocks - RS9000's from Rancho

true dual exhaust from the factory

Soft and hard tonno, along with the Camelback

I think they should leave it except add better shocks and sit a little higher. Everyone is always looking for aftermarket. What fun would it be if you didn't modify your truck? It could have the best of everything and people will still want to change something. I put new tires on everything I buy. Besides that, if it came from the factory, the price tag would skyrocket.

Amen to that.  I'd say leave it the way it is so guys can customize the truck to their needs.  Remember-offroading means different things to different folks.  Some guys offroad hardcore for fun on a regular basis, some trucks are used for farm work, and some trucks (like mine) only go offroad for hunting/fishing trips ;) .  Alot of Z71s NEVER go offroad!
