2000 4.3 owners, p0300 problem solved!!!

Hey guys, I fixed the misfire with a simple cap and rotor and this time I used the "gold" model and for the first time dielectric grease so hopefully the cap lasts longer than 6 months. Now the catalytic converter right bank is failing and my exhaust is very muffled. I have a 2000 silverado 4.3 v6 with true dual exhaust. The dealer replaced the cats last year for the same problem, I understand the warranty is 80,000 miles but what is the guarantee on the ones the dealer installed?

Is there any chance that just continuing to drive on the plugged up cat will clean it out? Can I damage the engine by driving the truck? I sure wish they were bolt on so I could just clean them out!

The engine misfire is what caused the catalytic converter(s) to fail.

The warranty continues to be 8/80 and if you're over that mileage, the parts installed carry their own 12/12 warranty. So if it's been less that 12 months AND less than 12000 miles, they are covered.

As for your dist. cap... it doesn't matter what kind you put on. If you don't fix the moisture build up the problem will re-occur. Make sure the vents in the distributor base are clear. If there are screens in them, pop them out. These vents are small holes, slightly smaller than 1/4" in diameter.

Does the distributor need to be removed to access them? I could not see them or feel them for that matter. I may be asking to much here but is there a picture of the vents in question anywhere?

How's this? They make the screens look much larger than they actually are, but this is basically what it looks like. Perhaps the 2000 doesn't have these and that's why it's not included in the recall?

wow that is perfect! I was looking in the wrong area I will check first thing in the morning. If they are not there then I'll have to start over.

I have a 99 C1500 4.3L, 104K and it has a P0300 code. What's new, Coil, masair, plugs, cap, rotor, dist. gear and new timing chain. What could be causing my misfire code? Has a lack of power and noise coming from the air cleaner. Need help and pin point test.
