2002 Tahoe Mirror

Recommended Posts

I need a Drivers Side mirror for a 2002 Tahoe. It is power, heated, with puddle lamp. The one that is broke has a body matched cover. If I get one with a black cover, can I just switch the cover to the painted one? How would I go about changing it?

Where would be a good source for a mirror? I called the dealer and they said $380. Hopefully I can find a better source

Thanks for any help

Find one on eBay. I paid $45 for one for my wife's 02 Tahoe. The spring loaded hinge on hers broke, and I changed over the whole thing (swapping over the colored front, which is Sport Red), in about 30 minutes. Removing the mirror is easy, the triangle shaped plate on the inside, on the inside, comes off, and there are nuts you need to remove, and the wiring harness to unplug. Easy project.

Does the colored part just pop off?

Thanks

Is the part of your mirror housing damaged that the colored backing is attached to? If NOT, then just swap over the whole xterior casing with the colored backing attached. If it is broken, then you'll need to get some double sided tape to re-attach your existing colored backing to the new mirror housing. There are a couple tabs + the double sided tape which hold the painted trim to the black housing.

The glass is broken and i think the heating part of it went bad too.  The mirror is discollored all the way around the outside

If your only problems have to do with the glass, then I would only change that, and not touch anything else.

To change the mirror, adust the power mirror glass so it's turned in towards the vehicle as far as the switch will let you adust. (If you were in the driver seat, you'd just about be able to see yourself in the mirror.)

With a large flat head screw driver, (now, from outside the vehicle), you should be able to see a large ring connected to the back of the glass (looking sorta like a crown.

Place the flat head screw driver between the back of the mirror, and the motor at the seam. Gently turning the screw driver, you should be able to GENTLY separate the mirror from the motor. Work your way around it slowly, and then pull the mirror glass out far enough that you can gently remove the 2 wires for the defroster.

Once you get the mirror off, you'll see how to put ot back together. Just take your time, and you can do it by yourself..

The only 2 tools needed: 1 large flat head screw driver, and 15 minutes of your time.

Ted,

Are you saying the mirror is available seperate from the assembly?  Anyone have a part number?

Thanks for the great help

Just buy a used one. I don't have a part number, but when the assembly broke on my wife's Tahoe, I had to buy the whole thing.. and swapped her glass over to the new assembly. 2000-2005 with defrost (heat) will work. Used will cost you less than $50.
