Nerf bars w/ body lift

Ryan, saw how you did your nerf bars w/the 3" body lift on the prior post "Body Lift Cover".  Looks great and is exactly what I want!!!  I want nerf bars that rise up higher than standard design to compensate for the body lift and tuck into the body.

Anybody else come up with a fix easier than custom design as Ryan did?

Ryan, if you had to do it again how would you do it?  Or better yet how 'bout making me a set in black powder coat?  I'll pay for the materials. ;)

Help is appreciated.

Oooops....Sorry Ryan.  I should read what's in front of me.  Mark's email isn't on his home page.  Maybe he's still around and will respond.  Thanks.

Off-road shop stated that the Westin nerf bars will permit about 2" adjustment upward to account for the body lift.

That's what I'm thinking too.  I have the Westin CPS bars, and was looking into moving them up after I get my B/L on and I think 2 inches will be easy to do with just a little drilling and making some new support brackets, maybe 2 1/2 but I'll have to wait until that time comes so I can do some good measuring.  I actually think 2 inches will be good for me.  My son is always banging his foot into the cab when getting in and occasionally I do too.  The polish from my boots (I'm in the military) tends to smear onto the rocker panel where it hits, so maybe only going up 2 inches will work out better for me, and still look good.   :D

when i bought me nerf bars for my truck thats what i had to do was drill holes 2 inches higher to compensate for the body lift after i raised them up i used a hacksaw and chopped the excess off the bracket that was hanging below the nerf bar, looks real good now. at first the steps hung extremly too low... prob. fixed :D if i ever get another digital camera ill get somemore pics up

illmac77, which brand of nerf bars did you go with?  In looking at the pictures of various brands online it doesn't look like all can be raised by just relocating the mounting hole.  I'll go with what you guys have found to work and sounds like a piece of cake.  Thanks.

Check out the pics in one of the tech articles here at GM-TC.  http://www.gm-trucks.com/IAR_westincps.shtml  These are the Westin CPS step bars for an extended cab, 3 door GM.  If you look at the brackets that the bars themselves mount to, it looks like 2 inches will be pretty easy to do.  Also looks like the front bracket is the only limiting factor.  If the bars is raised too far, I think there will be a problem with the head of the cab mount bolt and the head of the bolt for the step bar being too close to tighten it easily and work with.  Some new support bracket that go to the frame will need to be fabricated.  I think i got that covered with some strips of steel that are the same size, that I found at Lowe's.  :D
