I have the Magnaflow, can't tell you if it is better than Flowmaster, never had Flowmaster to compare.

The Magnaflow has a deep throaty and somewhat mellow sound, not loud except maybe when you punch on it. Doesn't have that popcorn/firecrackery sound if you catch my drift here. When out in the country and doing about 110 kph, I have been told they can hear the truck from a quite distance.

I like the sound but the only problem I do have, is there is a bit a resonnance/droany sound in the cab. This may be due to the hi-flow cats I also had put in and those two are right under the passenger seat. Maybe being an extended cab may be a contributing factor to this too. I don't have it undercoated either, as of yet, this should help a bit I would think.

I don't want to scare you from Magnaflow as the resonnace really isn't all that bad, definetly noticeable, but not bad. I just wanted to make sure you know this and not be surprized after the install.

I would say that magnaflow might be your better option then...flowmasters are definitly loud...so if you just want a low rumble i would go with the magnaflow's

When I bought my truck it had Flowmaster 50's with dumps under it. That drove me nuts so I had 60's with tailpipes added. It was better but I wasn't happy, too loud. It sounded like open pipe redneck crap.

So about 5 months back I had a Magnaflow installed and I'm very pleased. Mellow performance sound when cruising and a deep growl when getting on it, not to loud just right. We towed a 31' travel trailer from Houston to Slidell LA right after Katrina and nobody even noticed any drone with the Magnaflow worth mentioning. The flowmasters would of had us reaching for earplugs after 150 miles.

Performance was either unchanged or went up slightly with the Magnaflow. It's hard to tell if it's actually torqier when accelerating or I'm just giving it more throttle because it isn't obnoxious to do so. Probably a little of both. The Magnaflow is a dual in dual out with an X-core flow pattern so it's very possible performance went up while sound went down compared to the two separate Flowmasters.

I say get the Magnaflow hands down. From what you say you want you'll be a lot happier with Magnaflow than Flowmaster.

Magnaflow = one of the best exhaust out there.. I love the straight through design.. If i had to do it over again I would still get my magnaflow..

I installed a 22" S/S Magnaflow on my 6.0 and really liked the sound above 2000r.p.m., but the cab drone/resonance at 1700-2000 got to me after awhile. I tried adding two resonators ahead of the muffler but that had no effect. Bottom line is that I put the stock system back on and am happy, an expensive lesson learned on my part. Magnaflow makes a quality product & many that post here don't mind the cab noise, but it bothered me. Comes down to individual preference. Good luck.

I installed the Magnaflow Cat back Dual rear exit system on my 02 Ext Cab and am very pleased with it. I, like you, spent many hours on the internet and this forum researching truck exhaust systems before I bought the Magnaflow. The sound at idle is hardly noticable. It reminds me of standing behind an old model GM with a 455 with duals...You know what I mean? Sounds mean, not annoying. Get it out on the road and put your foot into and it will turn heads.....There is some cab noise that is to be expected with a loader exhaust. In my opinion, its a good noise. I actually find myself listening to my truck and not my stereo at times. At highway cruising speeds (1800-2000 RPM), it is barely noticable with NO other surrounding noise in the cab (i.e. wife, stereo, mother-in-law). Slight volume of the stereo or wife will elimate any noise you get from the exhaust at highway cruising speeds. The only thing I noticed that maybe some of the other users can comment on is that I do have a vibration felt in the floorboards from the exhaust. It's not a severe vibartion, and I cant decide if its vibration from noise or the way the exhaust mounts coming through the body. The exhaust is mounted correctly with rubber factory style hangars, but, with the rear exit you add hard mounts on the rear frame rails to hold two more hangars and I am not sure if this is where the vibrations may me coming from or not. One word of caution though : If you decide to go with a split rear exit like I did, it does take some "adjusting" to get it to clear the spare tire and shock and exit properly out the rear. I spent a few hours tweaking and adjusting the sytstem to get it right. If you are going with just the muffler or stock replacement, you wont run into this. Well, I hope all of this blah, blah, blah helps.
