HELP, gas milage probs....

hey guys, just wondering what kinda KM's you get to a gas of tank in your OBS yukons/ hoe's, i was just talkin to my buddy, his dad has a 99 Hoe, gets bout 600 to 700 KM to a tank in town and 800 on highway, on 110/120 liter tank.. mine i swear i got 650 Km to a tank intown and not much more on highway...I also took a trip 3 months ago, 300 Km cost me 38 bucks in gas at $1.20 a liter..

But in the last little while my milage has gone to crap, ive replaced my fuel pump and sending unit cuz my old gauge was wonkey, than that didnt fix it, changed the gauge cluster out, seemed to work fine for the time being, but my last 3 to 4 tanks of gas ive been lucky to get 350KM to a tank before its in the red zone , before i would get about 175 to 200 KM even before the gauge would move, now bout 90 KM the gauge drops...

Im just wondering if maybe the odds are my gauge is screwed again cuz ive done nothin to effect my gas milage latly, my truck is a well tuned machine, front and rear diff fluid has been changed, oil, tranny drained new filter and fluid, new fuel filter and Sea foam threw the tank, upper end cleanin also with sea foam, new NGK iradium plugs, new msd wires, new cap and rotor, new tires that im runnin a little harder to gain the lil bit of gas milage outta em, always clean K&N , throttle body and MAF always spotless...

If anyone can help me out here with any idea's this would be great, and is there a surefire fix for the d**n gas gauge problems ???

don't want to seem like i'm speaking outta turn here, but try converting the metric to American and you might get more replies. it's too much work for many of us to do the conversions!

anyway, i know what you mean. i have a 97 yukon too, and my mileage has gone to crap too. i used to get around 400 miles (643.74 km) or so on a 31 gal (117.35 liters) tank, and now i'm lucky to see 300 miles (482.8 km). one of the codes in the trucks computer is showing a problem with an o2 sensor, which would affect mileage. i'm going to test and probably replace it and see if that helps.

Thanks for the reply tarantula, if i knew how to convert this shiz tho i would but im from canada so im a lil slow.. lol jk man..

So it looks like pretty much we were reasonably close to the same tho for milage before, thats my big worry is O2's at $120 each than havin to crawl around in the snow, but i havnt had any codes yet, do you know of anyway to test em your self ?.

Do you have any mods on your truck ? Even after i added my k&n and my flowmaster catback i gained a lil gas milage last year, but i dont think what i have done would kill the milage in the long run.. so hopefuly your right with the O2's , keep me up to date on if you get them changed soon and if it helped the milage

I have an 05 Yukon that'll get 400 miles per tank on the road, 5.3 engine/2wd and an 01 Sierra X-cab with 143000 miles on it and i got 431 miles (22.3 mpg) on a tank last night driving around North Texas all day and then to Fort Hood and back last night!

I don't drive the Yukon much, except on a trip... (wifes car) but I drive the Sierra all day, every day. around 16 to 17 around town but well over 19 on any trip with cruise set to 75. If I drive 80, I get around 16.5 mpg...

No problem. Here's a handy site for just about any conversion you'd need. http://www.easysurf.cc/cnver6.htm#cig4 ;)

I have the K&N kit and Flowmaster catback exhaust too. That's pretty much it for performance mods though. The rest is just looks. There is a way to test them, I think you measure the resistance. I'm not sure if I'm remembering that right though. I came across this page on Autozone's site. http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?F...e71.jsp#hd1-1-2

Good luck. I guess I'll see if changing the sensor helps soon.

I'm curious about this as well, I used to get at least 13 out of my truck. Its gone down to 9 ever since I started driving it full time again(I got a motorcycle this summer). It seems to run as good as ever. The tires are where they are supposed to be. I actually put new plugs in it less than a year ago. It just doesn't add up. I was thinking it might be the 02 myself and came on here to see if anyone ever had this problem.

Got the 02's in lastnight, stompin on the gas feels alot nicer, squawkin tires into 2nd gear... as for gas milage dont know yet, but i gotta 300 + km road trip tommorrow so i will let ya know bout the gas diffrence once this tank is done...

You also have to consider that we are burning "Winter Blended Fuel" up here in the north, your milage will also suffer a little due to that. I know for a fact mine does. Not to mention the extended period of time you spend in traffic due to weather conditions this time of year......just a thought

But worn or slow reacting O2's are also a deffinate cause of declining milage.

I only have 1 on my '95, so it's easier for me to swallow the expense. I changed it almost 2 years ago and saw a deffinate improvement, as a matter of fact it's been over 50k miles, I may have to do it again. :D

Well since ive changed the O2's, ive filled the tank, as of right now im 550KM and change, and its in the red now this is after a bunch of city driving and the better part of a 300KM highway run yesterday driving between 120Kph and 150Kph in a head wind , but when i get on the gas, the gas needle goes up to just over a 8th of a tank, so im thinkin i am havin minor gauge probs also because even when its not moving anymore and i fill it , its only takin bout 90 liters and thats squezzing it full when it should be 120ish fill... SO im still debating on runnin this tank till it runs out dry to see what my over all KM is..

But it beats the 350/380 Km to a tank before doin the 02's last week... :D

    • Maybe, but it seems he is the only one that has backed up data to prove what he is stating. I think he is doing this more because he enjoys it and wants to get the information out to us. He's got the knowledge and access to the proper equipment and having the funds doesn't hurt.  I would love to do what he is doing and would do it if and when I hit the Powerball.  I'm not a Tribologist by any means but love to learn what I can.   I would bet there would be doubting people out there if a completely independent lab with high quality work and highly respected in the automotive industry, put out information like this.  The world can't be pleased, one just has to take the information that they are given, do more of their own research to find actual lab data to back up what they are trying to figure/find out.  Most don't bother, they just want to believe what they first see.     I don't have the minimax but my 6.2 in my 2019 Silverado with 64k miles shows excellent UOA results with 0w-20 and for my own purposes 5w-20.  Since not much of a change using 5w. I liked the data sheet information on the SS 5w-20 and figured I would give it a try.  Still the same viscosity at 100℃.   In the end we all just do what makes us happy, life is too short to get upset over trivial social media.   On a side note, I do feel GM has dropped the ball and just cares about the bottom dollar and not quality anymore.  "Like a Rock" has been long gone.  Seems "Built Ford Tough" has as well.
    • Better than stock but that's like putting lipstick on a pig
    • Hello, my 3 month old Sierra Elevation wont recognize a trailer with electric brakes? All the lights work correctly, but no power to the brakes?   This is the factory installed brake controller. If you manually push the knob, the display shows the power % but does not light up like my 2022 silverado.   I have an appointment with the dealer, but was checking to see if anyone else has seen this issue.    Thanks,
    • Been using SS 0w-20 from new, but wanted to change to the 5w-20 because I liked the data on the data sheet, to me it seems like a little better product. But as you can see, not much difference. This is also with running a mix of 10 gallons E85 to a tank topped with 93. It isn't a flex fuel vehicle so any higher I get a CEL for running lean on both banks. Yes my mileage takes a hit. Instead of 20 mpg I normally get on trips I get 17mpg. This is also using EaO17 filter.  What is amazing is I have the AMSOIL cone filter on it since I have the GM Performance intake installed and that air filter has 44k miles on it.  I just take it out and shop vac it off once a year.  I use the upholstery tool on my shop vac.  Works well.
    • So, lot's of googling and reading, and a trial fit found, that indeed they hit the newer fatter caliper. I did some re-testing today, and found just 3/16" worth of washers was enough for the wheel to spin freely. I added 2 more on each, and again it spun freely. Tested lock to lock with the 4 washers, about 5/16" not quite the 3/8" Im considering, but pretty close. No issues. I've been looking at the BORA .375" spacers and using extended lugnuts to get back lost thread due to the spacer. All the ET lugs I've seen are all .33" reach inside the wheel lug holes. For those that don't like spacers or think they're unsafe, I think it depends on what type of spacers you're using and making sure you get good quality hubcentric ones, and if you're using bolt on ones, regular mainenance, checking the spacer lugs. Not wanting or needing that much spread. Looking for the minimum that will let me run these rims and tires.  it does look to stick out a little, but I really want put these on. and use the stock all-terrains in the winter.
