The 04, GMC Safari I just purchased runs rough at idle, worse when cold. Now when you shift from drive to park the engine stumbles and then returns to normal RPM. It also stumbles off the line in drive. No warning lights. VAn has 37000 miles.

Also does this engine have a history of being noisy. It sound like it may have some bottom end noise. This was a "GM certified vehicle" and it was not serviced very well at all, if at all. The oil looked like it had about 1000 miles on it- no big deal. I changed the oil my self the other day and it was nasty. The oil pan plug magnet had a lot of metal powder on it. Maybe Im just being paranoid. The van was clean and well taken care of inside and out. Transmission shifts perfect.

Go back to the dealer. If it's GM certified, it should have at the very least a 3 month/3,000 mile warranty. If you purchased it while it was still under the 3/36, then the warranty is extended to 39,000 miles.

No, the engine does not have a history of being noisy. The 4.3 is one of our better engines.
