Temperature guage and fan problems

Hey guys, and gals....I have a problem and I cant find an answer on my other forums so I have come to where I know I can get help.

 

Here is my problem...I DRIVE A F*&^%$#G 2001 Malibu and it is the sorriest excuse of a car GM ever made!

 

Now that I have that off my chest this is my real problem. On my way home today my temperature guage just quit working. After some checking I notice that both my cooling fans are staying on. I though " temp sensor", I was wrong. The car is not over heating, it is runnig okay I think. But the guage doesn't move and the fans are on all the time.

 

I have checked the guage by removing the fuse it swings high and then with the fuse back in it bottoms out. I think both the guage and the fans are control by the computer. But who knows..... probably a monkey under the dash somewhere. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP.

The PCM controls the fans. The PCM also reports the temperature to the body control module, which in turn communicates with the cluster to tell it where to place the temp gauge needle.

 

This ain't the old days. You can't just guess at this stuff, so without being able to look at the various data parameters. Who knows what's going on. The PCM has some safeguards built into its programming that will default the cooling fans to be on fully with certain problems, so they are probably doing what they are supposed to be doing in this instance.
