bug deflector for the '06 1500 hood

I bought a GM bug deflector for my '06 1500 truck and it is such a poor fit that I did not install it. The bug shield sits tightly against the hood edge in the middle because the hood edge curves slightly downward in the middle and the bug deflector does not seem to follow this contour. If it rubs against the hood like that it will scrape the paint off in no time and cause rusting because water will tend to collect at the contact point.

And the dealer who sold me this POS claims that there is nothing wrong with the design.

As you know, GM used the 2500 series hood on the '06 1500 series. Therefore, they use a bug defector made for the HD series for this truck.

At this point I am considering having 3M protector film applied along the front part of the hood and forgetting about the bug deflector, at least until I find an aftermarket one that fits properly. I have installed bug deflectors on other trucks before and never had such problems!

Yes you can. I saw various sizes on eBay. The stuff is not cheap and I have not applied it before. Maybe professional installation would be a better idea, but then I am worried about some moron slicing into my hood with a razor blade.

I even saw these plastic film protectors advertised as custom fit for various truck models.

As far as putting it on, it's not that hard once you get it cut to fit the space your going to cover. You clean the surface with a de-waxer, spray the surface with soapy water, peel the protective cover off of the 3M product, spray it with soapy water, and work it into place using a credit card to squeeze out the air bubbles.

I might do that on the leading edge of my hood.

Thanks for the idea.

The GM Accessories hood/bug deflector for the 99-02 trucks was the Lund Interceptor, not sure about 03+.

I had one on my 2000 GMC (the dealer put it on as a gift). I took it off shortly after.

All they do is look bad and cause the windshield washer solvent to spray in random directions LOL.

I have 150K on my truck now without one chip on the hood. I say leave it off.

Regarding the film, just watch it does not discolor the paint underneath it after years of having it installed.

If you're still interested in getting a bugshield, the Stampede product number for the protector is a 0-3037-2. That's a smoke colored one. Any shield for a 05 and up 2500 HD will work on that 06 1500. FWIW, Tsetruckstuff.com has them for $57.95 shipped.

I have the GM Accessories Bug shield on my 2000 Silverado and a buddy has the Lund Interceptor on his and they are very different. It could be that Lund made the shields for GM, but they are not exactly the same. My wipers work perfectly and the fluid sprays where it is supposed to, unlike my buddies. Also, my mirrors don't "vibrate" with the wind.
