I have a 1998 chevy truck Z71 with a 5.7 V8 and 4L60E transmisson, and it has a noise all the time when moving, when still, never goes away. Warm cold it does not matter I was wondering if a pump in the transmission could cause this? The hiss speeds up with engine speed and the nosise is in every gear just wondering hate to change trans it works great just noisey could it be the converter thanks in advance.

Also can I get just a rebuilt pump and if so what years will fit or be the same. Is it hard to switch pumps

Are you absolutely, positively sure it's the trans? The converter is easy to change, once the trans is out, but they don't typically make noise. The pump is a bit harder to change.

I am sure of nothing I guess I thought of taking off my belt and that would eliminate the power stering water pump alternator etc.

I do not know how I tell what it is any tricks for finding the noise the one good thing is it is consistant and you do not have to be moving to hear it. I am at a loss what is turning when you are just in park the converter driven half or the pump to i would thing the pump must be turning any thing else turning. could it be my cam crank shaft it runs great has not problems just makes noise and I hat eto wreck it by ignoring some thing. thanks for any help you can give me.

Taking the belt off and running it (watch the temp!) is a good diagnostic tool. That eliminates a lot.

Popping it into neutral and shutting off the engine and coasting down from 30 mph (or whatever speed will give you the best listen to the noise) can help. That would eliminate engine (and accessories) torque converter, pump, etc.

I will try that but it does it when I am just sitting

Then forget the road test and just shut the engine off and see if you still hear it... JUST KIDDING!

Try removing the belt and go from there.
