6.0L ticking noises

I just bought a new pewter C3 on Feb. 22 and when it hit 1200 miles on it I reved it to 5000 rpm shift point and after that it has been making a ticking noise ever since. It is worse when it is cold, but still makes noise after hours of driving. It is very noticable when trans shifts and when in neutral reving the engine. If anybody had this problem let me know. I think it is a piston and probably needs a new engine. Thanks

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear about your noise.

It's hard to diagnose something that you can't physically listen too, but it could possibly be a bad injector also...

COLORADO, I too have the lifter tick

sound in my 01 6.0. Took to the dealer

to check it out. Yep just like the cold

start knock..NORMAL !!!!

The mechanic brought out a stethoscope

the ticking was indeed fuel pulsing thru

the injectors and fuel rails ! I thought

it was lifter noise.....If you don't have

the cold start knock u are lucky !...geo

My buddy had a tick in a 4.8, had a loose rocker arm that fell off eventually, put back on, noise gone, my 6.0 is quiet so far, but any thing is quiet compared to my since traded 97 powerstroke.

Thanks for the help guys

I took my c3 to a GMC dealship in Colorado Springs and took the engine out. They found a couple of scuffed pistons and are waiting for a new engine. They said the new one has some updates- I hope they are right. I ll be happy when I get it back, I cant wait!! Colorado C3
