New 1500 owner

Hiya folks!  

 

I just traded my 99 Ford Ranger for an '02 C1500 Ext Cab 4x4.  Optioned it out with the following:

 

G80 locking rear diff

Z82 trailering pkg

KNP trans cooling sys

Z85 HD suspension pkg

 

Engine is the basic 4.8L wheezer, but having test-driven this and the 5.3L there wasn't enough extra grunt to justify the bigger engine and accompanying price tag.

 

I really like it thus far...all ~30miles of it.  The Ranger was a good truck, just wouldn't hold a baby seat in back and I really hate the F-150 and Triton engine.  This makes my garage an all-Chevy stable, with my old faithful '82 Camaro Z28 parked next to the new truck.

btw...the 4x4 are called K1500s and the 2wd are C1500s, you had that mixed up in your message.

Welcome and congrats!!

 

FYI:

On paper, the 4.8 is rated to trailer 7500lbs

 

And the 5.3 in a 4x4 9200lbs, 8500lbs in a 2wd.

I bet your Z28 is happy you got the old F*rd out of the garage!!!    :thumbs:

Thanks for the welcomes everyone.  The first short-term mod is replacing the radio w/ a Pioneer GM-sized unit, gotta have a CD player.  

 

The rims & tires are next, I went cheap there from the dealer knowing whatever it came with was short-lived.

 

After that, who knows?  No fear of PCM hacking or cam swapping here, been doing it for years on my Z28...a vehicle doesn't really feel like it's "MINE" until the engine's been out.   :thumbs:

 

Details on the car and whatnot are on the page below.  I road race here in the NorthEast at Pocono and Lime Rock, gotta get to Watkins Glen now that I have a tow vehicle.

It sounds like you should enjoy our new "High Performance" forum.  We just kicked it off this week, but give it time and it'll grow.  We have alot of guys that visit our site that have done some nice mods to their trucks on the "power" end of things...  :thumbs:

Ditto. Welcome. I'm a newby too. Have had mine about a month. Reminds me of my old jeep. Same personality and twice as big. Parallel parking takes getting used to the first coupla times!
