What does UB1 require, if anything?

Does the UB1 model am/fm/casette/cd stereo from a 2005 Silverado require the Bose components to function properly?

 

That is, the amp and subwoofer? I have the head unit (only) and want to install it on a Silverado that came only with the am/fm head unit.

 

If it does require the amp, can I use any amp?

I think we did this one time... put a bose radio in a non-bose system. The radio works, but you have almost no volume as I recall.
