There are 2 factory options. One is a dual option (TP2) the other is an isolated option (8B0)

The Dual comes standard with the d-max. Both batteries are hooked together so you get more available power for starting. This is also good for plow applications or any application where you will be drawing a lot of power while the engine is running.

The isolated option keeps the main (starting) battery separate from the aux battery. This is a good option if you use power with the engine not running. Like running a fridge/lights/etc in your trailer or parked with a high power stereo or, in my case, an inverter to power tools all day. You will always be able to start the truck even after running down the aux battery.
