New 2007 Tahoe...

Went to auto show here in town and first vehicle I sat in was the new Tahoe. Have to admit, when I first saw pictures I was less than enthused. To me, the side and rear looked a lot like the frd explorer (ICK). Front end was growing on me from minute one, but side looked, well, too frd like...

Seeing one in person really changed my mind. And when you sit in one...wow.

Pro's:

- Like steering wheel, instrument cluster and the look and feel

- Seats are comfy and roomy

- DVD controls are now up front, instead of reaching back over your shoulder

- lots of neat little things (parking assist, rear camera, stabilitrac, etc., etc.)

- Fit and finish are equal or better than any other vehicle I sat in during this show.

Con's:

- Center stack with HVAC controls and Nav center are a little hard to get used to

- steering wheel is still off-center

- third row is pretty much useless for anyone but my 7 & 5 year old daughters

- Burban's don't come out for another two months :D

Spent the better part of the next two hours sitting in all sorts of SUV's, trucks, cars, etc. GM has gotten beat up for interior fit and finish, cheap plastic parts, etc. Well, I'm here to tell you that either the competition has come down a notch, or GM has raised the bar a LOT!

Granted, I'm a GM guy through and through, but in my mind there ain't much that compares right now. Unless you are going to spend $70k for a Lexus, I'm thinking the Tahoe has jumped to the top of the heap. Can't wait to see what the trucks look like next year.

And it would probably win a few awards except it cant, for the single reason that gm can not by law but a toyota or honda emblem in the front grill!

Yea I myself was very impressed with it. The hotel I work at recently put on a little show and one of the local Chevy dealers brought a white LT to display. I like it a lot. Makes me wish I had a couple tots to take around :D

Unless you have owned the vehicle since new i would doubt the ODO. Those numbers should be even all the way across. Could have been set back.

My wife and I saw the 2007 Tahoe LTZ at the Portland Auto Show yesterday. Yeah, we fell in lust, just like you guys. WOW.

If we didn't have a perfectly wonderful 2004 Tahoe LT, I'd just buy one. As it is, we'll prolly wait a year or two, and then buy one.

From what we saw, the interior and fittings are upgraded totally and Chevy is now on the top of the heap.

I'm really anxious for the Silverados to come out. I'll bet they follow along the same lines as the Tahoe. Currently, I have a 2003 EC/SB Silverado LT - Z-71 5.3/3.73 with a whole 12,000 miles on it. I really love the Z-71, but lust for something a little bigger to tow our 23-foot trailer......VortecMax? DuraMax? I dunno, but this 63 year old dude is needing a new cool truck and the 2007 may just do the deed.

Ain't it Hell, when there is absolutely nothing wrong with your old rig, but you want a new one? Must be the smell, or maybe it's just driving something new, just because you can afford it. Anyway, we have to think of it as our contribution to keeping the American economy strong. :D

Not sure what your refering to?

That photo was taken as I was rolling over. I pulled into my driveway and thats how far along it was. They hadn't evened out yet.

If someone was gonna set it back I woudl think they would set it back a lot farther than that lol. I am the 3rd owner but its been in the family for about 8 years.

The girl friend and I went and checked them out. So weird in January of 2006 we are checking out a 2007 model. :banghead: Any ways nice looking, the biggest thing that caught my eye was the 4-6 inches of clearnance that was in the front clip from the ground to the actual plastic! I am really concerned with how people will be scrapping after every bump.

I really don't like the front ends. Now I'm going to have to buy a new Suburban before I'm ready just so I can get a 2006. If I wait until I'm ready and all they have are the ugly-a$$ 2007 models, I might have to buy a F-F-F. I just can't say it.

If GM wants to know why they're posting record lossess it's because their vehicles are U-G-L-Y. And, they cost a fortune to maintain. Dealer pricing for parts and labor is atrocious. Did I mention how U-G-L-Y they are?

Sorry.

Attractiveness is subjective, and so far you're in a class of one with that opinion.

Cost of maintenance? Keep dreaming. GM has cost me no more to keep on the road than the imports I have owned in the past. In general, parts are cheaper for the domestics, while labor is on par. And reliability-wise, about the same (especially in the last 5 to 10 years).

Labor costs at dealerships are a standard that GM, Ford or any MFR has control of. They dont own the dealerships or the Techs. All dealers pay the techs close to the same and Chevy,Ford & Dodge parts are close in price. I buy some of my vehicles at a dealership that sells Chevrolet/Cadillac & Chrysler/Jeep flat rate is the same on all there vehicle service $75 per hour.

Agreed, and I realize GM doesn't set dealer pricing. But, if I hadn't had to take my Suburban to the shop for repairs a hundred times, then it wouldn't even be an issue. But since my '95 Suburban needs parts and repairs all the time, dealer pricing on parts and service becomes an issue.

If GM were to build a quality vehicle that: didn't have standard coolant leaks at the manifold, standard door hinge pins that wear out, standard door handles that break, standard HVAC control knobs that fall apart in your hand, standard HVAC controls that short out, standard power seat harness that shorts out and catches my seat on fire, standard radios that have a short in them and cost me two batteries before I figured it out and fought GM to pay for it under warranty, standard leaks in the front axle, standard ABS activation at low speeds because (choose your reason), etc. If those weren't issues, dealer prices would be meaningless to me.

And, then I was smart (?) enough to buy a '99 GM truck and had the SAME problems. Fool me once...

Did I mention their (new model) SUVs and trucks are U-G-L-Y? Sure, subjective, then then I'm not the one with the problem of poor sales. They didn't have this problem before their vehicles went UGLY. Sure, they unloaded some of them with employee (ugly front end discounts) pricing, but without that.....

I'm sure there are other reasons for poor sales but I'm entitled to my opinion. You like them, you buy them. No 2007 Tahoe or Suburban for me. Too ugly for something that expensive to own and maintain. I can't believe I'm even considering an '06 Suburban. Anything to make the wife happy, I guess.

My '92 has been in the shop once.

My '02 has been in once as well.

That's it.

Everybody has a different experience, and everybody takes it different.

And I really, really like the looks of the 07's...For the record. :banghead:

I love the look of the 2007 Tahoe, as well. And, for the record, my Chevys have been flawless; I ran bought a 1978 Silverado new and ran it for 16 years....never a problem, my 1998 Suburban was the same and my 2003 Silverado Z-71 is an absolutely perfect rig. I'll prolly sell our 2004 Tahoe, not because it has anything the matter with it, but because the 2007 is SUPER.

I've always lusted for the GMC "look," but for once the Chevrolet Tahoe is much better looking than the GMC.

This makes me happy because my local Shevy dealer, Town & Country Chevy is wonderful to work with and their service is absolutely superb. Our local GMC outfit is horrible; combat sales and an incompetent service staff.

I will be a buyer of the Tahoe, either in 2007 or 2008.

Yes, attractiveness is subjective... and IMO the '07 front end is a home run -- a hit out of the ball park (even compared to the '06 Tahoe/Suburban). GM finally got it right. The prior years will very quickly appear dated, and those '06 models will quickly depreciate, especially because the '07 is such an attractive hit -- nothing subjective there -- that's a fact.

Now, let's hope they don't screw up by trying once again to create a love-it-or-hate-it front end on the HD and 1/2 ton trucks.

Yea I think thats just it. I have a 94, so I can kinda see where hes coming from. The door pins that wear out and things like that are pretty cheezy, but I (like all OBS Silverados I think) have digital HVAC controls that last a pretty good amount of time. But even on my 196k mile 94 all the things I've had go out for the most part are gonna go out on EVERY car. Belt driven parts and such. Since I've done all the basic upkeep and such my truck has been trouble free. I think people get to a point where they want to complain about the small stuff. If your pickup is driven frequently and is almost 10 years old (or 12 in my case and 14 in wingnuts case) things are gonna get old and there isn't anything you can do about it.

People on this forum have had a tendency to complain about GM product a lot lately. This is pretty upsetting considering that this is a GM Owners board, and most of us probably appriciate their trucks. Not to mention that during this time GM needs all the loyal supporters they can get. Unless you've had a story like poor lisa then you really shoudln't bit*h because the grass is always greener on the other side. If you plan on drinking the Jap Kool-Aid thats fine, but don't dog on everyone elses parade.

<soapbox mode off>

PS - I dig the new Tahoe a lot...new Yukon take a little getting used to.
