A few days ago, I ordered a set of plug wires from Summit Racing. A good company and I have done business with them in the past. They offered "free shipping". I said "Great, a bonus. Thanks." Get my wires today, looked at the invoice and shipping WAS free, but they charged me $9.50 for "handling"! They also included a Summit hat that I will never probly never wear that is supposed to cost.........you guessed it, $9.50!!! Of course, the hat probly really only cost them $1.50 or so and I am supposed to advertise for them too.

I guess, whatever they need to say to get you in the door, whatever it takes to make the sale, but still get the money. If you are going to offer free shipping, OFFER FREE SHIPPING! Don't stab me with a pathetic handling fee!! If you must screw me, raise the price of my wires $9.50 and have FREE shipping AND HANDLING!! At least make me FEEL better!!

I am not really upset with Summit at all, it seems these days, every company does this or something similar, but I just get tired of the dog and pony shows to get me to spend money. Here is a tip. BE HONEST!! Most people would rather acknowledge that they are paying a few dollars more for a product and have honest, straightforward dealings than to get the best price followed by "misc. fees and charges", to end up at the same end result.

Sorry for the rant, but dealing with the general public regarding business gets frustrating anymore!

It's like that everywhere. I was no ebay the other day looking for some new magazines for my Colt 1911 and found some for the cheap price of $.99! The catch was the shipping and handling was $10.99. I work for the post office and I know it doesn't cost $10 to ship a magazine.

It's no different going into a dealer to buy a truck and they get you in with free tickets to the local game or some other lame crap to get you to buy. Just give me the best price and I'll bite.

Summit Racing has been that way for years. It can be a big savings when you order more than one part. I just think its easier to have one price for shipping for every order.

Well not EVERY company is like that..

Check out www.rockauto.com

Great catalog, they carry OE parts too ( including body parts ) and they don't offset their good prices with extra handling / shipping charges.

I just ordered some AC delco wires for my work truck, and the factory plugs ( AC Platinums ) and the total SHIPPED to me was $50.00 Shipping was $7

JUST the wires at a local parts store were $40

Sorry to hear they screwed you. I refuse to deal with Summit and here's why.

Theres a city here, actually a town, named Summit. The police department sponsors a dragstrip car that basically sports the logo "Keep kids of Drugs". The normal thing police departments try to teach young people. They had "Summit Racing" on the side of their car for the first few years they were racing it. I'm not sure how Summit Racing found out, either by being notified, or if they were contacted by the driver to make some donations to the car when it was being built. Summit Racing threatened a lawsuit if they didn't remove the words "Summit Racing" off the side of the car. Now...if it were another situation....I can understand a company being pissed that someone else is using their logo to benefit themselves. However, in this case, there is no money being made and it is for a good cause. Maybe it sounds stupid, but I cannot support someone who can't show a little human decency. Just thought I'd share this with you. By the way...theres another place I've dealt with a few times that seems pretty decent. I'm not sure how comparable prices are. But maybe try this place next time:

Those actions by Summit are very disappointing. I don't feel that they screwed me I guess, they do need to charge for shipping, as it is not free, but don't advertise free shipping, then charge a rediculous price for shipping. Just be honest about it.

I agree totally.

I am looking at the mirror covers for my truck at performanceproducts. I painted my chrome ones and they are starting to chip and I need to repaint so I figure I will buy a set of these ($69). I had a 10% off coupon since I have bought in the past. When I went to finish the transaction the shipping was like $13.50. WHAT!!!! Thats 19% of the purchase price. Its not like they are large and heavy they are pretty light what maybe 2lbs??? I hit cancel and will wait for a free shipping deal if they ever have one.
