Newbie question

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and it looks like this is the place to go for questions about my Chevy truck.

 

I have a 2000 Silverado Z-71 that is spitting fluid out of the vent hose on the front axle. I first checked the fluid level, it was low so I topped it off and drove it around. The problem continued. I was told to drain the fluid and replace it. I did that and the problem continued. Now I'm open for more suggestions. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

In case anyone runs into this problem, this is what I did to fix it.

 

The vent tube attaches to a nipple that can be removed from the differential. Remove this piece, it is about 2.5 inches in diameter. (I think I used a 15/16 inch socket to remove it, it almost unscrewed by hand) There is a rotating valve on the inside that must have gotten stuck in the open position allowing fluid to leak. I cleaned the part and made sure everything was free and reinstalled. I have not had a problem since. This fix was recommended to me by a heavy line technician at a local Chevy dealer. He said he has seen this problem on occasion.
