Blown speaker front passenger door

Recommended Posts

Just bought this 02 Sierra 2500 HD and noticed if there's any bass whatsoever in the sound, the speaker just goes haywire....sounds like it's fluttering. I figure it's just blown and needs replacing.

How do I get the cover off the door panel to check exactly which speaker's blown (there's 2 speakers in the door)?

And...if I find which one it is...is it as simple as buying a replacement speaker and reconnecting to the speaker wire coming from the stereo?

Might want to invest in some better speakers then the stock, I blew out both front speakers still haven't gotton around to replacing them :dupe::D:sick:

I dont know if you can pop the speaker grill off or not. I tried to do that and it acted like it wanted to break so i just removed the whole panel on the inside. Yuo didnt say what system you had in your truck but if it is the bose you may have to get a speaker compatible with the bose system. If its not bose than you have more options.

just did mine, super easy. three screws to remove whole panel, one underneath door. unplug wiring plugs and the speaker is there. you have to pop out the triangle panel near mirror and lift door panel up.

I repaired my speakers with a smear of silicone around speaker where torn.

I'm now groovin to the tunes , repair cost 30 cents per door.

Just like everything GM's doing, they're cutting cost on the speakers. Not like they used quality stuff in the past, but these really blow. I've already blown one passenger side speaker and now the replacement's on it's way out.

Best thing for you to do is just replace your factory speakers with after-market ones. The silicone approack will probably just help temporarily. A good speaker will have a foam or rubberized surround that should last you the life of the truck if not exposed to any extreme elements. Check out crutchfield for there explanation of factory and after-market speakers. It's very easy to do and I really think you be impressed. Look to spent about $100-250 for some good speakers (components being the best) Good luck.

I blew my door mid-ranges about 2 years ago. I picked up some Alpine 6 1/2" components from Hooked On Tronics. They were about $160 ish. Sound great, now I just need to get an amp and some rear fill, and the higher frequencies will be taken care of.

The silicone is definitely a temporary fix. I used to design and install systems and you'd be surprised how crappy factory components are and even more surprised at how people "fixed" them, but that's for another forum. I think I'll JBL my whole truck!
