I'm installing additional lighting in my covered bed, and would like to control the lights with the same switch for the Cargo rear lights. Does anyone know what color wires are involved and where I can tap into them from the bed? Alternatively, I could wire up a magnetic switch so when the gate drops it'll close the circuit and light up the bed.

Not sure about the exact wire colors, but I'm pretty sure you wont be able to tap into them in the bed because all the wiring is ran inside the truck. Best thing to do would be to tap in directly at the dash switch. I like the magnetic switch idea also. Thats probably the way I'd go, because you wouldn't have to go inside the truck each time to turn on the light.

I just went outside and pulled a few body peices...don't worry, if you do a couple the fear will be completely out of you....and the only wires running to the headliner are in the drivers pillar by the windshield.

Its dark, so I didnt do it for you, but just take some of the electrical tape off, hit the switch, and use a electrical tester to see which is the magic wire. (you may want to do this with the doors closed or enterior lights off for obvious reasons).

You can then trace this power wire down under the dash....it will either be connected at the in cab fuse box which is behind the triangle peice on the outside of the drivers side dash or under the dash kinda under the parking brake under a black plastic sheild.

You will have to tap it there, and I suggest the hot wire that goes to the light and be sure you arent on the brakes (both again for obvious reasons).

As a disclaimer I will say that my truck is a 2004 ccsb and all this knowledge came from 2 days of me cussing and figuring out chevys wiring myself when I connected my kodiak sidewinder steps to my factory door light wiring.
