A special thank you to Ryan for the copy of the GM letter, all it took was a verification of my VIN # and the part is on it's way.

Thanks again,

Hmmm...  I wonder what is in my '01 HD???  Do you think I should take a look???  Would the HD's be the same (probably) ???

:)    I sent off my card for the flexible crank.  If anybody wants mine, let me know.  My oversize spare tire will not fit in the carrier, so I have no use for the crank.

This goes with my other post (Spare Tire Question).  I knew I remebered reading something about the TSB not that long ago.  I even put a post on this topic.

Sent mine in months ago - still haven't received it even after it was supposedly "expidited." Waiting on info from Chevy as to where it is. What scared me is that they basically said that "if we've sent it out than it's not our problem". Dealer said he can't get it (no part number). Fortunately I was able to borrow one long enough to get the tire out - it now rides in my bed but I'm getting seriously PO'd at Chevrolet.

Maybe they'll get it to me. I'm gonna start climbing the chain of command soon (talk to CS person's supervisor, then their supervisor, etc.) May wind up in Lansing with a lead pipe! (just kidding).

Has anyone tried modifying the winch so that you can use the regular extensions? Looks like a little precision work with a crowbar would get it done, but I'm not gonna do that unless I have to.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Did this affect the '01's?

It sure did. I brought our truck in with the TSB from AllData

and the Dealer installed the correct brace kit. What the brace kit basically does is raise the tube so that the tool will engage the drive in order to lower the spare.

I'm still fighting over the nickel plated rear yoke after the lube

on the OEM yoke started the "squack" noise after two weeks.

I'm ready to chuck the original yoke in the drill press, bore it in the center of the spline, tap the hole for a grease zerk, and make the truck a twelve point chassiss lube at regular service intervals. What do you think? I'll take nude digital photos, + draw a print.
